"Bath County, in western Virginia, was formed from Augusta, Botetourt, and Greenbrier counties in 1791. It is itself the parent county for part of Alleghany County, Virginia, and Pocahontas County, West Virginia. This work consists of genealogical abstracts of the oldest surviving wills and inventories for Bath County--but that's not all. Interspersed with the inheritance records are abstracts of bonds, powers of attorney, estate settlements, articles of agreement, and other records of genealogical import. In general the will abstracts furnish the name of the testator, his county of residence, the names of witnesses and executors, the date of probate, and the names and relationships to the testator of the heirs to the will. All told, nearly 15,000 early residents of Bath County appear in these pages"--Publisher website (August 2007).

By: Katherine Elliott, Pub. 1967, Reprinted 2016, 178 pages, Index, ISBN #0-89308-377-1. Lunenburg County was created in 1746 out of Brunswick County, VA. The earliest records in Lunenburg County cover this entire area. The records included in this volume have been abstracted from wills and administrations found in the back of Deed Book I and Will Book I & II. Because some of the early records of Lunenburg County do not seem to have been preserved, the compilers have included in this volume some 20 pages of records abstracted from ORDER BOOK 1-6. These notes from the order books give names of deceased persons not of record in the will books, and names of orphans and other notes pertaining to the period covered in Volumes 1 and 2 of these reprints. Also found is a listing of marriages taken from Deed Books and other vital records, as well as apprenticeships, guardianship and much other valuable data important to the person searching this area of Virginia. There are more than 2,200 names of persons found in the above records listed in the full-name index.

Essex County Virginia Will Abstracts 1751 1842 And Estate Records Index 1751 1799 written by Wesley Pippenger and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-12-23 with categories.

This work presents abstracts of Last Wills and Testament found in Essex County, Virginia court records, beginning with Will Book 9 in 1751, and continuing into Will Book 24 that ends within 1842. The reason for beginning with will abstracts in 1751 is that all estate-related records before that date had been previously abstracted and published by several compilers. A list of those publications is included. The result is that we now have published abstracts of all Essex County wills from 1692 to 1842, but only index entries to estate-related records after 1751. Because this work fills the gap after 1750 for abstracts of Last Wills and Testament only, it leaves uncovered complete text of non-will items for the period 1751-1799. Therefore, an index to the non-will items for that period has been created and is included herein. This work now leaves users with a complete index of all estate-related items (accounts, allotments, bonds, divisions, dower, inventories, sales, etc.) found in Essex County, Virginia will books from the time of county formation in 1692 up through 1865, with abstracts of wills from county formation into 1842. Names of witnesses and the date of probate are included, while all marginal notes as to transactions after the date of probate, like letters of administration granted, or certificates issued, are not always included. Spelling varies between scribes and the spelling of some surnames evolved over time. The author has standardized some spellings, like surname Sthreshley. An Introduction, several facsimile reprints of original wills and an index to full-names, places and subjects add to the value of this work. (2016), 2020, 81/2x11, paper, index, 412 pp.

For this study, a "lost record" is considered in two ways: first, as an item from a location where court records have been destroyed; and second, for records that are found in unexpected places -- oftentimes far from their point of origin. One might consider this work about wills and their whereabouts. Also abstracts or transcripts of wills have been noted when found published in periodicals.Numerous sources have been consulted, and these are listed under Abbreviations. Many wills may be found digitized and accessed online at the Library of Virginia. Wills that are identified from chancery suits are typically not included if they originate from the same county as the court copy of a will. Of the wills that have been copied from chancery causes, a single suit reference is normally given; however, the will may be found in multiple suits. Many previous to 1800 are included. In using the burned record county database at the Library of Virginia, not all items show the specific source for the copy, so the reference given here is merely "BRCD." Duplicate entries have been removed from the subject work, which focuses on data previous to 1800.
