Solving Numerical Pdes Problems Applications Exercises written by Luca Formaggia and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-04-05 with Mathematics categories.

This book stems from the long standing teaching experience of the authors in the courses on Numerical Methods in Engineering and Numerical Methods for Partial Differential Equations given to undergraduate and graduate students of Politecnico di Milano (Italy), EPFL Lausanne (Switzerland), University of Bergamo (Italy) and Emory University (Atlanta, USA). It aims at introducing students to the numerical approximation of Partial Differential Equations (PDEs). One of the difficulties of this subject is to identify the right trade-off between theoretical concepts and their actual use in practice. With this collection of examples and exercises we try to address this issue by illustrating "academic" examples which focus on basic concepts of Numerical Analysis as well as problems derived from practical application which the student is encouraged to formalize in terms of PDEs, analyze and solve. The latter examples are derived from the experience of the authors in research project developed in collaboration with scientists of different fields (biology, medicine, etc.) and industry. We wanted this book to be useful both to readers more interested in the theoretical aspects and those more concerned with the numerical implementation.

Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) has been widely applied in a wide variety of industrial applications, including aeronautics, astronautics, energy, chemical, pharmaceuticals, power and petroleum. This unique compendium documents the recent developments in CFD based on kinetic theories, introducing flux reconstruction strategies of kinetic methods for the simulation of complex incompressible and compressible flows, namely the lattice Boltzmann and the gas kinetic flux solvers (LBFS or GKFS). LBFS and GKFS combine advantages of both Navier-Stokes (N-S) solvers and kinetic solvers.Detailed derivations, evaluations and applications of LBFS and GKFS, and their advantages over conventional flux reconstruction strategies are analyzed and discussed in the volume. The must-have reference text is useful for scholars, researchers, professionals and students who are keen in CFD methods and numerical simulations.

Mathematical Foundations Of Finite Elements And Iterative Solvers written by Paolo Gatto and has been published by SIAM this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-06-27 with Mathematics categories.

“This book combines an updated look, at an advanced level, of the mathematical theory of the finite element method (including some important recent developments), and a presentation of many of the standard iterative methods for the numerical solution of the linear system of equations that results from finite element discretization, including saddle point problems arising from mixed finite element approximation. For the reader with some prior background in the subject, this text clarifies the importance of the essential ideas and provides a deeper understanding of how the basic concepts fit together.” — Richard S. Falk, Rutgers University “Students of applied mathematics, engineering, and science will welcome this insightful and carefully crafted introduction to the mathematics of finite elements and to algorithms for iterative solvers. Concise, descriptive, and entertaining, the text covers all of the key mathematical ideas and concepts dealing with finite element approximations of problems in mechanics and physics governed by partial differential equations while interweaving basic concepts on Sobolev spaces and basic theorems of functional analysis presented in an effective tutorial style.” — J. Tinsley Oden, The University of Texas at Austin This textbook describes the mathematical principles of the finite element method, a technique that turns a (linear) partial differential equation into a discrete linear system, often amenable to fast linear algebra. Reflecting the author’s decade of experience in the field, Mathematical Foundations of Finite Elements and Iterative Solvers examines the crucial interplay between analysis, discretization, and computations in modern numerical analysis; furthermore, it recounts historical developments leading to current state-of-the-art techniques. While self-contained, this textbook provides a clear and in-depth discussion of several topics, including elliptic problems, continuous Galerkin methods, iterative solvers, advection-diffusion problems, and saddle point problems. Accessible to readers with a beginning background in functional analysis and linear algebra, this text can be used in graduate-level courses on advanced numerical analysis, data science, numerical optimization, and approximation theory. Professionals in numerical analysis and finite element methods will also find the book of interest.

Computational Fluid-Structure Interaction: Methods, Models, and Applications provides detailed explanations of a range of FSI models, their mathematical formulations, validations, and applications, with an emphasis on conservative unstructured-grid FVM. The first part of the book presents the nascent numerical methods, algorithms and solvers for both compressible and incompressible flows, computational structural dynamics (CSD), parallel multigrid, IOM, IMM and ALE methods. The second half covers the validations of these numerical methods and solvers, as well as their applications in a broad range of areas in basic research and engineering. - Provides a comprehensive overview of the latest numerical methods used in FSI, including the unstructured-grid finite volume method (FVM), parallel multigrid scheme, overlapping mesh, immersed object method (IOM), immersed membrane method (IMM), arbitrary Lagragian-Eulerian (ALE), and more - Provides full details of the numerical methods, solvers and their validations - Compares different methods to help readers more effectively choose the right approach for their own FSI problems - Features real-life FSI case studies, such as large eddy simulation of aeroelastic flutter of a wing, parallel computation of a bio-prosthetic heart valve, and ALE study of a micro aerial vehicle
