The Eyes Of Justice written by José María González García and has been published by Klostermann, Vittorio this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017 with Equality before the law categories.

Should Justice be blind or should she instead be capable of seeing everything, even the human heart? Jose M. Gonzalez Garcia examines how the iconography of Justice evolved over the course of history. Providing an overview of depictions of Justice in various ages and places, the book mainly focuses on "The Blindfold Dispute" that began to develop during Renaissance. While at first the blindfold was perceived as unjust, precisely because it denied Justice the ability to see everything, it transformed just a few years later into a positive symbol of the equality of all individuals before the law. And other depictions were added: supplementary eyes, transparent blindfolds, the double face of Janus, the returns of Astraea and the "Eye of the Law". The book also analyses important historic moments in which the crisis of the Law went along with a search for new forms of representing the gaze of Justice, as reflections on the art of Durer, Klimt and Kafka as well as recent developments in political philosophy show.

Vision written by David S. Tatel and has been published by Hachette UK this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024-06-11 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

A memoir by one of America’s most accomplished public servants and legal thinkers—who spent years denying and working around his blindness, before finally embracing it as an essential part of his identity. David Tatel has served nearly 30 years on America’s second highest court, the United States Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, where many of our most crucial cases are resolved—or teed up for the Supreme Court. He has championed equal justice for his entire adult life; decided landmark environmental and voting cases; and embodied the ideal of what a great judge should be. Yet he has been blind for the past 50 of his 80-plus years. Initially, he depended upon aides to read texts to him, and more recently, a suite of hi-tech solutions has allowed him to listen to reams of documents at high speeds. At first, he tried to hide his deteriorating vision, and for years, he denied that it had any impact on his career. Only recently, partly thanks to his first-ever guide dog, Vixen, has he come to fully accept his blindness and the role it's played in his personal and professional lives. His story of fighting for justice over many decades, with and without eyesight, is an inspiration to us all.

Beyond Retribution written by Christopher D. Marshall and has been published by Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2001 with Christianity and justice categories.

Recently a growing number of Christians have actively promoted the concept of "restorative justice" and attempted to develop programs for dealing with crime based on restorative principles. But is this approach truly consistent with the teaching of Scripture? To date, very little has been done to test this claim. Beyond Retribution fills a gap by plumbing the New Testament on the topics of crime, justice, and punishment. Christopher Marshall first explores the problems involved in applying ethical teachings from the New Testament to mainstream society. He then surveys the extent to which the New Testament addresses criminal justice issues, looking in particular at the concept of the justice of God in the teachings of Paul and Jesus. He also examines the topic of punishment, reviewing the debate in social thinking over the ethics and purpose of punishment -- including capital punishment -- and he advocates a new concept of "restorative punishment." The result of this engaging work is a biblically based challenge to imitate the way of Christ in dealing with both victims and offenders. - Publisher

Justice written by Salman Khalid and has been published by Dog Ear Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-06-14 with Religion categories.

Contrary to political philosophies as varied as utilitarianism, socialism/communism, those advocating the welfare state, and Rawls’s, which are all constructed on the hypothesis that an inextricable nexus exists between distributive justice and equality, Justice: A Fresh Impression doubts the presumed nexus and argues that to see justice through the lens of equality is to misunderstand justice. Instead, this book presents an alternative foundation for rights—namely, that everyone is born free—not equal, but with an equal entitlement to all the resources of the planet. Justice illustrates that this revised premise, which blends the best elements of the free market model with those of socialism, extends larger space to human diversity, and also presents a steadier platform to fight poverty (through recognizing everyone’s equal right to the planet’s resources).
