For many years, the author has used his enormous collection of quotations (this anthology is only the tip of the iceberg!) with students in "Reflection Groups". Each week, 20 or 30 such groups meet at the University College chaplaincy for contemplation and discussion of a chosen theme. Beginning with quotations from the Bible, other sources are called upon to recollect the knowledge and wisdom of the past as well as present day insights. The aim is to enrich hearts and minds after the manner of Philippians 4:8, "Whatever is true...honourable...just...pure...lovely...gracious, think on these things".

In previous years, the person and the work of the Holy Spirit were the object of much debate and confusion. In the midst of this back-breaking atmosphere, it is very easy to ignore the importance of the ministry of the Holy Spirit in the life of the believer. In order to shed light on such a large subject, we will therefore together explore this question: ?WHAT IS THE RELATIONSHIP OF THE HOLY SPIRIT WITH THE BELIEVER? While giving a biblical approach to this question, it is my greatest desire that the life and heart of the readers of this work be enriched by the presence and power of the Holy Spirit, and that his presence in them is an indispensable source of spiritual blessings in their relationship with God.

After decades in which American popular culture dominated global media and markets, Japanese popular culture—primarily manga and anime, but also toys, card and video games, and fashion—has exploded into a worldwide phenomenon. Mechademia, a new annual edited by Frenchy Lunning, begins an innovative and fresh conversation among scholars, critics, and fans about the complexity of art forms like Superflat, manga, and anime. Dancing The Dharma written by Susan Blakely Klein and has been published by BRILL this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-03-07 with Literary Criticism categories.

Dancing the Dharma examines the theory and practice of allegory by exploring a select group of medieval Japanese noh plays and treatises. Susan Blakeley Klein demonstrates how medieval esoteric commentaries on the tenth-century poem-tale Ise monogatari (Tales of Ise) and the first imperial waka poetry anthology Kokin wakashū influenced the plots, characters, imagery, and rhetorical structure of seven plays (Maiguruma, Kuzu no hakama, Unrin’in, Oshio, Kakitsubata, Ominameshi, and Haku Rakuten) and two treatises (Zeami’s Rikugi and Zenchiku’s Meishukushū). In so doing, she shows that it was precisely the allegorical mode—vital to medieval Japanese culture as a whole—that enabled the complex layering of character and poetic landscape we typically associate with noh. Klein argues that understanding noh’s allegorical structure and paying attention to the localized historical context for individual plays are key to recovering their original function as political and religious allegories. Now viewed in the context of contemporaneous beliefs and practices of the medieval period, noh plays take on a greater range and depth of meaning and offer new insights to readers today into medieval Japan.
