Visual Culture And The Forensic written by David Houston Jones and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022 with Art categories.
"David Houston Jones builds a bridge between practices conventionally understood as forensic, such as crime scene investigation, and the broader field of activity which the forensic now designates, for example performance and installation art, as well as photography. Contemporary work in these areas responds both to forensic evidence, including crime scene photography, and to some of the assumptions underpinning its consumption. It asks how we look, and in whose name, foregrounding and scrutinising the enduring presence of voyeurism in visual media and instituting new forms of ethical engagement. Such work responds to the object-oriented culture associated with the forensic and offers a reassessment of the relationship of human voice and material evidence. It displays an enduring debt to the discursive model of testimony which has so far been insufficiently recognised, and which forms the basis for a new ethical understanding of the forensic. Jones's analysis brings this methodology to bear upon a strand of contemporary visual activity which has the power to significantly redefine our understandings of the production, analysis and deployment of evidence. Artists examined include Forensic Architecture, Simon Norfolk, Melanie Pullen, Angela Strassheim, John Gerrard, Julian Charriáere, Trevor Paglen, Laura Poitras and Sophie Ristelhueber. The book will be of interest to scholars working in art history, visual culture, literary studies, modern languages, photography and critical theory"--

The Scientific Imaginary In Visual Culture written by Anneke Smelik and has been published by V&R unipress GmbH this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010 with Art categories.
Popular media, art and science are intricately interlinked in contemporary visual culture. This book analyses the scientific imaginary that is the result of the profound effects of science upon the imagination, and conversely, of the imagination in and upon science. As scientific developments in genetics occur and information technology and cybernetics open up new possibilities of intervention in human lives, cultural theorists have explored the notion of the posthuman. The Scientific Imaginary in Visual Culture analyses figurations of the posthu-man in history and philosophy, as well as in its utopian and dystopian forms in art and popular culture. The authors thus address the blurring boundaries between art and science in diverse media like science fiction film, futurist art, video art and the new phenomenon of bio-art. In their evaluations of the scientific imaginary in visual culture, the authors engage critically with current scientific and technological concerns.

Temelde İnsan: Çağdaş Sanat ve Nörobilim sergi kataloğu, yapıtları nörobilim araştırmalarıyla kesişen yedi çağdaş sanatçının yapıtlarını bir araya getirdi. Küratörlüğünü New York'taki School of Visual Arts, Güzel Sanatlar Bölümü Başkanı Suzanne Anker'ın üstlendiği sergide yer alan sanatçılar: Suzanne Anker, Andrew Carnie, Frank Gillette, Michael Joaquin Grey, Leonel Moura, Rona Pondick ve Michael Rees. ---- Fundamentally Human: Contemporary Art and Neuroscience exhibition brought the work of seven contemporary artists to the fore, whose work addresses aspects of the neurological sciences. Curated by BFA Fine Arts Department Chair of the School of Visual Arts in New York Suzanne Anker, the exhibition included works by the artists Suzanne Anker, Andrew Carnie, Rona Pondick, Michael Joaquin Grey, Michael Rees, Frank Gillette and Leonel Moura. Each interdisciplinary artist essentially employed new technologies ranging from robotics, 3-D scanning, Photoshop, rapid prototyping, microscopy and computational video. All were concerned with the mysteries and unity of nature and its processes, the transmission of knowledge and beliefs, and the reveries of human metaphors of being in time.

Contributors investigate the motivation behind scientifically-embedded contemporary art practices as well as art-based scientific research and engagement that attempt to shape society. This edited volume reflects the rapidly developing practices comprising integrative and collaborative work across different knowledge domains (including art and science), the benefit of those processes to the individual, to knowledge production (and its complexity) and ultimately the benefits to society (why it is worth doing). The book will provide an overview of the factors in which the exhibition and performance of scientifically-engaged art inside and outside of traditional museum spaces has instigated cultural and aesthetic transformations and social interactions while presenting a variety of opportunities for educators, scientists, artists and the interested public to critically expand its engagement. The book is intended for scholars interested in collaborative and/or integrative work who study research, methodology, art history, science, and museum studies.

The collaboration between scientists and artists in the form of Artist-in-Lab residencies may not only cause a productive disturbance for a day's work in the laboratory, but also reveal new ways of understanding. Research and science communication company Biofaction has brought together artists and synthetic biologists throughout Europe in a residence program that spans four truly cross-disciplinary collaborations. The contributors to this volume share their reflections of the dynamic frictions that occurred when their artistic and scientific worlds met. These stories, where chemistry labs, tobacco plants, genetically edited bacteria, and new-to-nature enzymes collide with music, photography, film, and visual arts, infuse the ongoing dialogue between art and sciences with grain, noise, and synergies.
