Diese Untersuchung beschaftigt sich mit der Politik des Deutschen Reiches gegenuber den ausserhalb der Reichsgrenzen lebenden Menschen deutscher Volkszugehorigkeit mit fremder Staatsangehorigkeit, den sogenannten 'Volksdeutschen', in den Jahren 1933 bis 1938. Als im Jahre 1933 in Deutschland mit der NSDAP eine Partei an die Macht kam, die den Zusammenschluss aller Deutschen in einem grossdeutschen Staat als zentralen Programmpunkt herausstellte, musste sich der nationalsozialistische Totalitatsanspruch besonders auf die 'Auslanddeutschen', das heisst auf die Millionen von Volksdeutschen wie auch auf die im Ausland ansassigen 'Reichsdeutschen', auswirken. Im Mittelpunkt dieser Studie steht die Auseinandersetzung zwischen nationalsozialistischen Regierungs- und Parteistellen, die fur eine an den Interessen des NS-Staates orientierte Volkstumspolitik eintraten, und traditionalistisch gepragten Volkstumspolitikern, die die Eigeninteressen der deutschen Minderheiten im Ausland anerkannten und sich fur eine unauffallige Unterstutzung der Volksdeutschen durch das Mutterland einsetzten. Es wird untersucht, wie sich der vom Widerstreit zwischen Nationalsozialisten und Traditionalisten gekennzeichnete Konzentrationsprozess vollzog und welche allgemeingultigen Leitsatze bestimmend fur die Volkstumspolitik im "Dritten Reich" waren, die schliesslich in die spezifische Umvolkungspolitik der SS mit ihrer machtstaatlichen Verfugung uber deutsche und nicht-deutsche Volksgruppen mundete.

A few years after the Nazis came to power in Germany, an alliance of states and nationalistic movements formed, revolving around the German axis. How did the Nazis imagine their victory and the subsequent ‘Thousand-Year Reich’?
