Wakey Wake-Up Rise & Shine! It's not what happens to you that makes you the person that you are, it is how you deal with it that defines you. Linda was an energetic 52-years old, enjoying a new lease of life in Spain - flying solo, with a great social scene and everything to live for - when her very existence was almost snatched away by a near fatal heart attack. As it was, it sapped her robust physical strength and the lifestyle that she loved was turned upside down - or as she now says "the right way up!" Linda has been a Holistic Practitioner and Teacher for over fifteen years and so declined most of the prescribed conventional treatment and decided to strut her stuff and use complementary therapies to achieve her goal to not just survive, but to thrive! This also meant digging deep into her emotional self to find the source of her heart's dis-ease and grabbing the horns with both hands to deal with it all, without the emotional crutches of vino and social smoking. "It would have been easier to take the pills and pretend that I was now OK, but to my mind that would cheat the very reason I was put on this beautiful planet and it was time to wake-up and smell the coffee - even though I couldn't actually drink it for months following point break!" Ten months later and Linda says that "The heart attack saved my life" and is in amazing health and happier than she has ever been. This guidebook is her story, packed with insights and how she used holistic therapies to achieve this. With it, Linda hopes to inspire you to turn your own life changing event into the best thing that ever happened to you and to thrive!

Written by a Commando veteran of World War II, this is a remarkable, vivid and honest account of the battles and actions behind the award of the thirty eight Battle Honours that were awarded to the Army Commandos by Her Majesty the Queen in 1958. These Battle Honours are emblazoned on the Commando Flag that hangs in Westminster Abbey in London, almost opposite the tomb of the Unknown Warrior. The story of each honour is presented in the most direct way, using the stories and experiences of the commandos, officers and men who actually took part in the fighting. It should be emphasised that the operations mentioned as battle honours recognised only those deemed to be thoroughly outstanding feats of arms and represent only a fraction of the raids and battles fought by the Commandos in their five years of active service. The formation of the Commandos was due to Winston Churchill, who proposed their formation in a directive dated 18 June 1940, which advocated limited offensive action against the enemy's extended and vulnerable coastline. This compilation includes photographs of training and combat in Norway, Dieppe, Normandy, Flushing and many more locations.

The Road To Ruins written by Ian Graham and has been published by UNM Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-03-16 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

For anyone who ever wanted to be an archaeologist, Ian Graham could be a hero. This lively memoir chronicles Graham's career as the "last explorer" and a fierce advocate for the protection and preservation of Maya sites and monuments across Mexico, Guatemala, and Belize. It is also full of adventure and high society, for the self-deprecating Graham traveled to remote lands such as Afghanistan in wonderful company. He tells entertaining stories about his encounters with a host of notables beginning with Rudyard Kipling, a family friend from Graham's childhood.Born in 1923 into an aristocratic family descended from Oliver Cromwell, Ian Graham was educated at Winchester, Cambridge, and Trinity College, Dublin. His career in Mesoamerican archaeology can be said to have begun in 1959 when he turned south in his Rolls Royce and began traveling through the Maya lowlands photographing ruins. He has worked as an artist, cartographer, and photographer, and has mapped and documented inscriptions at hundreds of Maya sites, persevering under rugged field conditions. Graham is best known as the founding director of the Corpus of Maya Hieroglyphic Inscriptions Program at the Peabody Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology, Harvard University. He was awarded a MacArthur Foundation "genius grant" in 1981, and he remained the Maya Corpus program director until his retirement in 2004. Graham's careful recordings of Maya inscriptions are often credited with making the deciphering of Maya hieroglyphics possible. But it is the romance of his work and the graceful conversational style of his writing that make this autobiography must reading not just for Mayanists but for anyone with a taste for the adventure of archaeology.
