The Neurocognitive Theory Of Dreaming written by G. William Domhoff and has been published by MIT Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-10-04 with Science categories.

A comprehensive neurocognitive theory of dreaming based on the theories, methodologies, and findings of cognitive neuroscience and the psychological sciences. G. William Domhoff’s neurocognitive theory of dreaming is the only theory of dreaming that makes full use of the new neuroimaging findings on all forms of spontaneous thought and shows how well they explain the results of rigorous quantitative studies of dream content. Domhoff identifies five separate issues—neural substrates, cognitive processes, the psychological meaning of dream content, evolutionarily adaptive functions, and historically invented cultural uses—and then explores how they are intertwined. He also discusses the degree to which there is symbolism in dreams, the development of dreaming in children, and the relative frequency of emotions in the dreams of children and adults. During dreaming, the neural substrates that support waking sensory input, task-oriented thinking, and movement are relatively deactivated. Domhoff presents the conditions that have to be fulfilled before dreaming can occur spontaneously. He describes the specific cognitive processes supported by the neural substrate of dreaming and then looks at dream reports of research participants. The “why” of dreaming, he says, may be the most counterintuitive outcome of empirical dream research. Though the question is usually framed in terms of adaptation, there is no positive evidence for an adaptive theory of dreaming. Research by anthropologists, historians, and comparative religion scholars, however, suggests that dreaming has psychological and cultural uses, with the most important of these found in religious ceremonies and healing practices. Finally, he offers suggestions for how future dream studies might take advantage of new technologies, including smart phones.

Wake Up written by Rev. Dr. Rudolf Valerain Dsouza OCD and has been published by Rudolf Dsouza this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-01-24 with Religion categories.

According to St. John of the Cross, “our awakening is an awakening of God and our rising is God’s rising. It is as though David were to say: Let us arise and be awakened twice, because we are doubly asleep and fallen. Since the soul was in a sleep from which it could never awaken itself, and only God could open its eyes and cause this awakening, it very appropriately calls this an awakening of God, saying: “You wake in my heart”. Awaken and enlighten us, my Lord, that we might know and love the blessings that you ever propose to us, and that we might understand that you have moved to bestow favors on us and have remembered us” (Flame IV.9). I have read many books that suggest ways to discover the goal of our life. All these could be classified as selfhelp books because they approach the subject from a self-centered viewpoint and suggest some possible remedies and prescribe some methods. Try to clarify our values and set some goals. Figure out what we are INTRODUCTION xiv good at. Aim high. Go for it! Be disciplined. Believe we can achieve our goals. Involve others. Never give up. Of course, these recommendations often lead to great success. But waking up to realities within and around us can be as powerful as disciplining or never giving up. You can usually succeed in reaching a goal if you put your mind to it. But being successful and fulfilling your life’s goals are not at all the same issue! You could reach all your personal goals, becoming a raving success by the world’s standards, and still miss the purposes for which God created you. You need more than self-help advice; you need to wake up to realities around you. This is what the great mystics insist. They just tell us that we need to open our eyes and be open to all that happens right there in your presence. This is what they call ‘watching’ or waking up. The great mystics like St. Teresa of Avila, St. John of the Cross and others woke up to God experience at a moment in their life and as a consequence their life was totally transformed into a life of great joy and contentment. They lived in the presence of God as if were already in heaven. This is what I mean telling myself and others who read this book: WAKE UP.
