Ces Actes du Colloque XV pour l'etude du dessin sous-jacent et de la technologie dans la peinture (Bruges, 11-13 septembre 2003), reunissent trente-six etudes traitant d'oeuvres d'art flamand, espagnol, portugais, italien et francais. Ces etudes sont suivies, comme dans les Actes precedents, d'une bibliographie de l'infrarouge.Depuis de nombreuses annees on sait que la peinture ancienne est constituee - outre d'oeuvres dites "originales" - de copies, de repliques et de pastiches, produites dans des ateliers actifs qui faisaient appel a des collaborations. Les bases sur lesquelles on avait fonde jadis les catalogues des maitres sont ebranlees. De nombreuses attributions doivent etre revues. Les auteurs du present volume ont porte leur effort dans ce sens, examinant d'un oeil critique le statut des peintures et les indices qui permettent de reconnaitre l'original de la copie. Certains auteurs traitent de procedes de copies, de l'usage de cartons, modeles et papiers perfores, mais egalement de couleurs, d'encres, d'enduits, de technique picturale ... D'autres auteurs tentent de preciser le nombre de collaborateurs dans les ateliers. D'autres encore s'interessent a une methode d'examen, comme la radiographie, pour l'exploiter afin de distinguer au mieux la main du maitre de celle du copiste.

Stone traders initially based in the Meuse valley, the Van Neurenberg family expanded northwards to Nijmegen and Dordrecht from 1530 on, becoming an international trading company in the process. Their subsequent activities reflect the huge changes the Dutch building sector underwent during the 17th century. They cooperated with the most famous artists of their time, such as Hendrick de Keyser in Amsterdam, and were involved in the most modern building projects of the Dutch Golden Age, such as Frederik Hendrik of Orange's Honselaarsdijk Palace. This study offers new insights into a relatively neglected aspect of Netherlandish building history in the 16th and 17th century. Dr. Gabri van Tussenbroek (1969) studied art history and medieval history at Utrecht University. Since 1 January 2006 he has worked as municipal building archaeologist in Amsterdam.

Mit dieser Arbeit über den Maler Bartolomeo Manfredi liegt die erste profunde Studie zu dem bedeutendsten Nachfolger Caravaggios vor. 1582 im Herzogtum Mantua geboren und seit 1600 in Rom tätig, war Manfredi vermutlich für kurze Zeit in der Werkstatt Caravaggios tätig und übernahm nach dessen Flucht 1606 das künstlerische Erbe seines Vorbildes. Durch die konsequente Erschließung neuer Sujets aus Mythologie und religiöser Historie und die Entwicklung einer großfigurigen Genremalerei bildete Manfredi einen persönlichen caravaggesken Stil aus und avancierte zum wichtigsten Vermittler Caravaggios. Neben der ausführlichen Beschreibung von Manfredis Leben und Schaffen ist die weitverzweigte Rezeption seiner Kunst ein Schwerpunkt dieser Untersuchung. Sie betrachtet fünf Werkgruppen Manfredis, bestimmt deren Gehalt als Prototypen und bewertet ihre Rezeption durch niederländische, flämische und französische Caravaggisten. Im Katalogteil dieser Arbeit werden alle erhaltenen und Manfredi zugeschriebenen Gemälde aufgeführt und diskutiert. Mit Detailkenntnis geht die Autorin auf Fragen der Provenienz, Zuschreibung und der Datierung ein und erläutert das Verhältnis des Malers zu seinen Zeitgenossen. So entsteht das faszinierende Bild eines Künstlers am Beginn des Barock, der für die Ausbildung des Caravaggismus eine entscheidende Rolle spielte.
