Before the famed Nuremberg Tribunal, there was Rüsselsheim, a small German town, where ordinary civilians were tried in the first War Crimes Trial of World War II. As the tide of World War II turned, a hitherto unknown incident set a precedent for how we would bring wartime crimes to justice: In August 1944, the 9- man crew of an American bomber was forced to bail out over Germany. As their captors marched them into Rüsselsheim, a small town recently bombed to smithereens by Allies, they were attacked by an angry mob of civilians--farmers, shopkeepers, railroad workers, women, and children. With a local Nazi chief at the helm, they assaulted the young Americans with stones, bricks, and wooden clubs. They beat them viciously and left them for dead at the nearby cemetery. It could have been another forgotten tragedy of the war. But when the lynching was briefly mentioned in a London paper a few months later, it caught the eye of two Army majors, Luke Rogers and Leon Jaworski. Their investigation uncovered the real human cost of the war: the parents and a newlywed wife who agonized over the fate of the men, and the devastating effect of modern warfare on civilian populations. Rogers and Jaworski put the city of Rüsselsheim on trial, insisting on the rule of law even amidst the horrors of war. Drawing from trial records, government archives, interviews with family members, and personal letters, highly-acclaimed military historian Gregory A. Freeman brings to life for the first time the dramatic story. Taking the reader to the scene of the crime and into the homes of the crew, he exposes the stark realities of war to show how ordinary citizens could be drawn to commit horrific acts of wartime atrocities, and the far-reaching effects on generations.

This book is not politically correct! I urge you not to read it if that will offend you.It contains the language of the Sixties. It reflects sexual emancipation from the Fifties. In other words, it is a FUN read! The Second World War had come to an end about twenty years before this story begins, but readers will sense its presence along with the threat of Vietnam. There was that tiny little pill that played a huge role in the Sixties.Meet a beautiful flight attendant finds out my apartment is directly below hers on East 85th Street.Follow "Robert's Fairly Famous Roast Beef Sandwiches" as they move out of my apartment to Lloyd's Bar.The ad for the sandwiches states, "Not only are our sandwiches illiterate, they are thick!"Charlie is the Manager of Lloyds's. He doesn't like "pinko liberal music".My friend, Ira, brings his friend, Abbie Hoffman, over to meet me. Abbie instructs me as to what not to drink and what to smoke.Names are shamelessly dropped, including the names of young writers who hang out at Elaine's, a famous restaurant and bar that is a short walk from Lloyd's as is Malachy's Bar and Grille. I fell madly in love with NYC and the people living in it.

Journey written by Dr. Jerome Heath and has been published by UberMann this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014 with Poetry categories.

This Poetry Must be Read with Emotion; Read the Words - Feel the Music! “his voice was like the sound of many waters” Oceans and oceans, The sea, the sea, the sea, Great waves crashing against the shore. Again and again they crash, Like the wrath of God upon the works of men. The rolling waves. The constant flow. A thousand little streaks of light. It is a song. It is a never ending melody. A thousand little streaks of light. Oceans and oceans, The sea, the sea, the sea, Great waves crashing against the shore. The dreams, the ideas, the plans, Again and again the wrath of God Will clash with the plans of men. And their dreams tumble. The ideas of men collapse. So they are no more But a heap of rubbish, A page of meaningless symbols, A forgotten field, A plot of ground, A grave. To rest, To sleep Forever, forever, forever. Oceans and oceans, The sea, the sea, the sea, Great waves crashing against the shore.

As the sixties dream faded, a new flamboyant movement electrified the world: GLAM! In Shock and Awe, Simon Reynolds explores this most decadent of genres on both sides of the Atlantic. Bolan, Bowie, Suzi Quatro, Alice Cooper, New York Dolls, Slade, Roxy Music, Iggy, Lou Reed, Be Bop Deluxe, David Essex -- all are represented here. Reynolds charts the retro future sounds, outrageous styles and gender-fluid sexual politics that came to define the first half of the seventies and brings it right up to date with a final chapter on glam in hip hop, Lady Gaga, and the aftershocks of David Bowie's death.Shock and Awe is a defining work and another classic in the Faber Social rock n roll canon to stand alongside Rip it Up, Electric Eden and Yeah Yeah Yeah.

King Dork written by Frank Portman and has been published by Delacorte Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008-02-12 with Young Adult Fiction categories.

As John Green, New York Times bestselling author of The Fault in Our Stars said, “King Dork will rock your world.” The cult favorite from Frank Portman, aka Dr. Frank of the Mr. T. Experience, is a book like nothing ever done before--King Dork literally has something for everyone: At least a half-dozen mysteries, love, mistaken identity, girls, monks, books, blood, bubblegum, and rock and roll. This book is based on music--a passion most kids have--and it has original (hilarious) songs and song lyrics throughout. When Tom Henderson finds his deceased father’s copy of J. D. Salinger’s The Catcher in the Rye, his world is turned upside down. Suddenly high school gets more complicated: Tom (aka King Dork) is in the middle of at least half a dozen mysteries involving dead people, naked people, fake people, a secret code, girls, and rock and roll. As he goes through sophomore year, he finds clues that may very well solve the puzzle of his father’s death and—oddly—reveal the secret to attracting semi-hot girls (the secret might be being in a band, if he can find a drummer who can count to four. A brilliant story told in first person, King Dork includes a glossary and a bandography, which readers will find helpful and hilarious. Praise for King Dork: “Basically, if you are a human being with even a vague grasp of the English language, King Dork, will rock your world.”—John Green, author of The Fault in Our Stars “[No account of high school] has made me laugh more than King Dork. . . . Grade A.”—Entertainment Weekly “Impossibly brilliant.”—Time “Provides a window into what it would be like if Holden Caulfield read The Catcher in the Rye.”—New York Post [STAR] “Original, heartfelt, and sparkling with wit and intelligence. This novel will linger long in readers’ memories.”—School Library Journal, Starred [STAR] “A biting and witty high-school satire.”—Kirkus Reviews, Starred [STAR] “Tom’s narration is piercingly satirical and acidly witty.”—The Bulletin of the Center for Children’s Books, Starred “Loaded with sharp and offbeat humor.”—USA Today “King Dork is smart, funny, occasionally raunchy and refreshingly clear about what it’s like to be in high school.”—San Francisco Chronicle “King Dork: Best Punk Rock Book Ever.”—The Village Voice “I love this book as much as I hated high school, and that’s some of the highest praise I can possibly give.”—Bookslut.com
