The Author's naval war experiences make the most exciting reading. After being mined on the battleship Nelson in 1939, he served on the Prince of Wales, during the Bismarck action, witnessing the sinking of the Hood and Churchill and Roosevelt's historic meeting. He survived the disastrous sinking by Japanese dive-bombing in December 1941 but within two days of reaching Singapore, the Island fell. Evacuated in a coastal steamer, only to be sunk the next morning, he was stranded on a deserted island for a week before setting out for Ceylon in a native boat. His epic journey covered 1660 miles and took 37 days. Thereafter his adventures continued, with the North African landings, Russian convoys and, returning to the Far East, he was in the carrier Formidable when she was hit twice by Japanese Kamikazes before VI Day August 1945.

Prior to the stock market crash in 1929, Holland was a prosperous country where its people enjoyed secure futures-or so they thought. After the world's economic collapse, millions were forced into a poverty-stricken existence where every day was a struggle to survive. A Lousy Start shares one family's vivid impressions of living in Holland during the Great Depression and the lasting impact those experiences had on their lives. At the beginning of the twentieth century, Arie Demerwe worked hard and was paid very little, but still managed to put food on his table. Sent to fight in the war of 1918, Arie finally returned to his hometown where he began working again-only to see everything change again after the end of World War I. As the people of Holland enjoyed wealth they assumed would last forever, dark changes loomed ahead. When the sun rose on October 23, 1929, no one had a clue that tragedy would strike by day's end. For the next ten years, a hostile world would transform even the most religious people into thieves and liars. As one family fought to stay alive in a bleak existence, each of them learned valuable life lessons they would carry with them forever.

Knight Light written by Roger L. Bennett and has been published by AuthorHouse this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-02 with Religion categories.

Knight Light is narrated by star-crossed lovers quaintly identified as HE and SHE. He is the author, fate-appointed Knight on a King's quest. She is the Queen Mother, Virgin Mary in contemporary guise. What they did after their church wedding in 1982 is told in sizzling detail as a Royal romp in the hay. But it wasn't until the Immaculate Conception of 1986 that Roger Bennett's second wife chose to reveal Her eternal self for that ONE night only. That's when his silver seed was gathered for a mysterious purpose known only to Her and (perhaps, perhaps not) to that Black African race God's evolutionary plan determined to be first-in and last-out. Afterward his wife vanished, never to be seen or heard from again. Out of respect for the Virgin Mary (not Her earthly name) Bennett waited over two decades before writing the most intimate sexual details of their lives together. But how else to tell this incredible story so readers have the facts on which to form their own conclusions? His respect for Her was further shown by remaining the faithful husband ever since.

Narrating Estrangement written by Lisa P. Z. Spinazola and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-05-09 with Psychology categories.

The stories in Narrating Estrangement: Autoethnographies of Writing Of(f) Family demonstrate the pain, anguish, and even relief felt by those who contemplate estranging or who are estranged, whether by choice or circumstance. Despite the social assumptions persisting about the everlasting nature of family relationships, when people make the complicated and often difficult decision to disconnect from family members, they experience shame, stigma, and isolation because of social pressures to maintain those relationships at all costs. Each contributor uses the act of storytelling and the autoethnographic mode of scholarship and writing to find clarity in their individual, unique, and complex situations. Several authors’ explorations restore some of what they have lost through estrangement—such as a sense of identity, emotional health and well-being, and feelings of belonging—due to the breakdowns in social and family support systems meant to be unconditional and "permanent." The stories display the wide array of reasons why family members become estranged, delving into different types of estrangement, permanent and/or intermittent. In doing so, the writers in this book demonstrate that family relationships are neither easily categorized nor neatly ended—their impact on an individual’s life continues and changes, even in and through estrangement. This book adds to the ongoing scholarly conversations about family estrangement for students and researchers interested in autoethnography and qualitative inquiry, in a wide range of disciplines in the social sciences, healthcare, and communication studies.

Then, overnight, her foundation collapsed as one by one she lost her husband, career and home. Her life as she knew it shattered; but then, over the next two and a half years, it was rebuilt in extraordinary ways. Through her short but amazing journey, she shares with us her story of great loss followed by three unexpected miracles. Mercy maintains an amusing attitude, reminding us that even in the most trying times, we can still experience joy. Her story is also one of faith, connecting to intuition and opening her heart and mind to a different life. Most importantly, she sheds light on a population of children that is being dismissed, neglected and mostly forgotten about: adolescent foster kids. She admits she wasn’t aware of the reality of the foster care system until she was thrust into it. She shares the intimate details of the system, the process to become a foster parent and the remarkable gift of becoming a mother. Her story inspires us to stay positive, look to the future and open our hearts to our neighbors and communities.

Lois A. Ferguson was a training teacher for college graduates at a Japanese relocation center in California. Her husband set up a junior college and night school program. Their efforts were to help relieve the injustices done to fellow citizens. Kay Watson's husband fought in Burma while Kay worked at one of the sites of a secret government project known as the Manhattan Project; she later learned that she might have played a small part in the plan to drop an atomic bomb on Hiroshima. Mary L. Appling was a librarian in a California high school when she met Hugh Appling, a serviceman just returned from the war; together, they worked in Foreign Service for the United States for nearly thirty years, a direction affected by their actions during World War II. The recollections of these three women and 52 others are edited and presented by Pauline Parker, who also endured the war. Many women had life changing experiences during this turbulent time--Parker has gathered the personal stories of such women as Marines and government workers as well as single mothers whose husbands had gone off to fight.
