English summary: Many social philosophers and ethicists contend that a modern society cannot remain stable merely by its citizens obeying all of its rules. Such prominent theoreticians as J. Habermas, J. Rawls, D. Gauthier or R. Rorty hold the view that the citizens of a modern society must exhibit additional anthropological qualities which are termed moral surpluses here. Christoph Lutge argues, however, that no moral surplus is immune to erosion by systematic counter-incentives and that anthropological qualities in general cannot serve as a basis for ethics in the globalized world. An order ethics, which is based on weaker prerequisites, namely the characteristics of situations and their basic conditions (orders), is more likely to count on cross-cultural approval in the era of globalization. Rorty vertreten die Ansicht, dass die Burger einer modernen Gesellschaft uber zusatzliche anthropologische Eigenschaften verfugen mussen, die hier als moralische Mehrwerte bezeichnet werden. Beispiele sind Werte und Tugenden, eine rationale Motivation oder ein funktionierender Gerechtigkeitssinn.Christoph Lutge untersucht die Tragfahigkeit dieser moralischen Mehrwerte im Zeitalter der Globalisierung. Die Frage ist zum einen, ob moralische Mehrwerte hinreichend sind, d.h. ob sie gegen Erosion durch systematische (Fehl-) Anreize gefeit sind. Zum anderen wird untersucht, ob moralische Mehrwerte fur gesellschaftliche Stabilitat notwendig sind. Beide Fragen werden letztlich verneint. Keine der untersuchten anthropologischen Eigenschaften kann damit die Grundlage fur Normativitat in der globalisierten Welt abgeben.Diesem zunachst negativen Ergebnis stellt Christoph Lutge jedoch ein positives zur Seite: Der Ansatz der Ordnungsethik baut fur die Stabilitat von Gesellschaften nicht auf Eigenschaften von Menschen, sondern auf Merkmale von Situationen und deren Rahmenbedingungen (Ordnungen). Er liefert damit die Grundlage fur eine nicht-anthropologisch begrundete Normativitat, die voraussetzungsarmer ist und im Zeitalter der Globalisierung eher auf kulturubergreifende Zustimmung rechnen kann.

Sie waren auf der Suche nach einer Alternative und ein Teil der Bevölkerung fand diese in der Partei „Alternative für Deutschland“, welche, für viele vollkommen unverständlich und schockierend, nicht nur in einigen Landesregierungen, sondern seit September 2017 auch in der Bundesregierung, vertreten ist. Das Gefühl des Auseinandertreibens wurde durch diese Wahl zusätzlich verstärkt und schafft großen Raum für kritische Debatten. „Was die Welt im Innersten zusammenhält“ ist eine so umfassende Fragestellung, welche weitere Fragen aufwirft und keinesfalls leicht zu beantworten ist. Die Thematik, was eine Gesellschaft ausmacht und was sie zusammenhält, beschäftigt uns nicht nur seit der „Flüchtlingskrise“, bei der es viele Einwanderer in Europa und Deutschland gab. In Folge dieser wurde über die generelle Struktur der deutschen Bevölkerung, die Klassen, die Kluft zwischen Arm und Reich und der demographische Wandel mit dem dazugehörigen Generationskonflikt diskutiert.

Human beings necessarily understand their social worlds in moral terms, orienting their lives, relationships, and activities around socially-produced notions of right and wrong. Morality is sociologically understood as more than simply helping or harming others; it encompasses any way that individuals form understandings of what behaviors are better than others, what goals are most laudable, and what "proper" people believe, feel, and do. Morality involves the explicit and implicit sets of rules and shared understandings that keep human social groups intact. Morality includes both the "shoulds" and "should nots" of human activity, its proactive and inhibitive elements. At one time, sociologists were centrally concerned with morality, issues like social cohesion, values, the goals and norms that structure society, and the ways individuals get socialized to reproduce those concerns. In the last half-century, however, explicit interest in these topics has waned, and modern sociology has become uninterested in these matters and morality has become marginalized within the discipline. But a resurgence in the topic is happening in related disciplines – psychology, neurology, philosophy, and anthropology - and in the wider national discourse. Sociology has much to offer, but is not fully engaged in this conversation. Many scholars work on areas that would fall under the umbrella of a sociology of morality but do not self-identify in such a manner, nor orient their efforts toward conceptualizing what we know, and should know, along these dimensions. The Handbook of the Sociology of Morality fills a niche within sociology making explicit the shared concerns of scholars across the disciplines as they relate to an often-overlooked dimension of human social life. It is unique in social science as it would be the first systematic compilation of the wider social structural, cultural, cross-national, organizational, and interactional dimension of human moral (understood broadly) thought, feeling, and behavior.

Ernst-Wolfgang Böckenförde (1930-2019) was one of Europe's foremost legal scholars and political thinkers.
