Toleration and Tolerance in Medieval European Literature aims to examine and unearth the critical investigations of toleration and tolerance presented in literary texts of the Middle Ages. In contrast to previous approaches, this volume identifies new methods of interpreting conventional classifications of toleration and tolerance through the emergence of multi-level voices in literary, religious, and philosophical discourses of authorities in medieval literature. Accordingly, this volume identifies two separate definitions of toleration and tolerance, the former as a representative of a majority group accepts a member of the minority group but still holds firmly to the believe that s/he is right and the other entirely wrong, and tolerance meaning that all faiths, convictions, and ideologies are treated equally, and the majority speaker is ready to accept that potentially his/her position is wrong. Applying these distinct differences in the critical investigation of interaction and representation in context, this book offers new insight into the tolerant attitudes portrayed in medieval literature of which regularly appealed, influenced and shaped popular opinions of the period.

Urban spaces throughout Europe are increasingly characterised by a mixture of different religions and worldviews. Being home to a wide range of religious and non-religious groups and individuals does not mean that cities are automatically also spaces of interreligious and interfaith encounters. Zum Umgang mit Differenzen Wolf-Dietrich Bukow/Claudia Nikodem/Erika Schulze/Erol Yildiz Die Rede von der Parallelgesellschaft speist sich aus zwei sehr unterschiedlichen Quellen, nämlich einerseits aus der Stadtforschung und andererseits aus einem migrationspolitischen Alarmismus der Medien. Allerdings geben beide Quellen einzeln nicht viel her, nur verknüpft scheint daraus überhaupt eine Debatte entstanden zu sein. Dennoch bleibt es erstaunlich, dass sie sich entfalten konnte und seit nunmehr gut acht Jahren sogar eine beträchtliche Wirkung zeigt. Bis heute gibt es fast keine systematische Auseinandersetzung mit Parallelgese- schaften und so etwas ist wohl auch kaum zu erwarten, weil institutionell geschlossene Gesellschaften in einer globalisierten Weltgesellschaft kaum vorstellbar sind. Doch gehen wir lieber langsam vor und kreisen die Thematik schrittweise ein. Dann wird auch deutlich, an welcher Stelle die Beiträge dieses Sammelbandes einhaken. Aus welchen Quellen wird hier geschöpft? Wie oben erwähnt kann man zunächst einmal zwei Quellen ausmachen, die e- zeln kaum ertragreich genug sind, aber zusammen synergetische Effekte herv- bringen.

Reformation bedeutet Veränderung. Sich an den Beginn der Reformation vor 500 Jahren zu erinnern, bedeutet, sich auf Prozesse der Veränderung einzulassen, auf Spuren aus der Vergangenheit, die bis in die Gegenwart und über sie hinaus erreichen. Theologie, die sich auf die evangelischen Ursprünge des Christentums besinnt, bewirkt Veränderungen, eine Reform der Christenheit. Programmatisch lautet der Titel von Luthers Reformaufruf von 1520: "An den christlichen Adel deutscher Nation von des christlichen Standes Besserung". Die damit angestoßenen Veränderungsprozesse brachten Religion und Reform in eine Beziehung, die über die Kontexte des 16. Jahrhunderts bis in die kirchliche und gesellschaftliche Gegenwart hinausführt und dabei auch kirchliche Binnenperspektiven, die Grenzen konfessioneller Institutionen und sogar die der christlichen Religion sprengt. Auf dem Bogen der reformatorischen Impulse setzen die Beiträge des Bandes Akzente aus unterschiedlichen Perspektiven, von der Kirchengeschichte bis zur Religionswissenschaft, von biblischer Exegese zur Praktischen Theologie und Wirtschaftswissenschaft, von Luther bis zu den Freikirchen. Die Beiträge entstammen einer Ringvorlesung, die als akademischer Beitrag zum Reformationsjubiläum im Rheinland gemeinsam von der Evangelisch-Theologischen Fakultät der Universität Bonn und der Kirchlichen Hochschule Wuppertal/Bethel durchgeführt wurde. "Biblische Theologie" soll angesichts der aktuellen Entwicklungen neu ins Licht gestellt werden. In der konfessionellen Wohlfahrt nimmt die religiös-weltanschauliche Vielfalt unter den Mitarbeitenden stetig zu. Mit der vorliegenden Studie wird in den mit dem Begriff "Interkulturelle Öffnung" verbundenen Diskurs eine religionswissenschaftliche Perspektive eingebracht. Im Fokus der Untersuchung stehen die andersgläubigen Mitarbeitenden in diakonischen Unternehmen. Dabei wird zum einen nach der Verwurzelung der Mitarbeitenden in der eigenen religiös-weltanschaulichen Identität gefragt, zum anderen nach ihrer Identifikation mit dem diakonischen Arbeitgeber. Die Ergebnisse sind in einen theoretischen Rahmen eingebettet, der die Herausforderungen der Interkulturellen Öffnung darstellt und ein Angebot für die Weiterentwicklung des Prozesses macht.
