Wave Propagation and Scattering in Random Media, Volume 2, presents the fundamental formulations of wave propagation and scattering in random media in a unified and systematic manner. The topics covered in this book may be grouped into three categories: waves in random scatterers, waves in random continua, and rough surface scattering. Random scatterers are random distributions of many particles. Examples are rain, fog, smog, hail, ocean particles, red blood cells, polymers, and other particles in a state of Brownian motion. Random continua are the media whose characteristics vary randomly and continuously in time and space. Examples are clear air turbulence, jet engine exhaust, tropospheric and ionospheric turbulence, ocean turbulence, and biological media such as tissue and muscle. Rough surface examples are the ocean surface, planetary surfaces, interfaces between different biological media, and the surface roughness of an optical fiber. This book is intended for engineers and scientists interested in optical, acoustic, and microwave propagation and scattering in atmospheres, oceans, and biological media, and particularly for those involved in communication through such media and remote sensing of the characteristics of these media.

These proceedings include articles of the Sixth International Conference on Mathematical and Numerical Aspects of Wave Propagation (WAVES 2003), held in Jyviiskylii, Finland, from June 30 to July 4, 2003. As in the previous five conferences in this series, its program covered a broad range of topics related to the mathematical modeling and numerical simulation of wave phenomena. Topics of specific interest included various areas of acoustics, electromagnetics, elasticity, and related optimization and inverse problems. In addition to the nine invited presentations, we selected for this confer ence 152 high-level papers from over 20 countries, especially from Europe. Most of them are contained in this book. They provide an extensive overview on the recent developments in the theoretical and applied wave propagation. The conference was organized by the University of Jyviiskylii and the Institut National de Recherche en Informatique et en Automatique (INRIA) in cooperation with Jyviiskylii Congresses. The editors would like to thank the organizing institutions and the in ternational scientific committee for their efforts in the preparation of this conference. We are also grateful to all the authors of the papers for their contributions to these proceedings. Special acknowledgment is due to Ms. Dominique Potherat, to Ms. Helene Chanut and to Ms. Marja-Leena Ranta lainen for their valuable assistance in the preparation of this proceedings volume. Intensity Coherence And Frequency Spectrum Of A Focussed Beam In A Random Medium written by Ronald Louis Fante and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1974 with Coherence (Optics) categories.
Numerical results have been obtained for the effect of the strength of turbulence on the intensity, mutual coherence function, and frequency spectrum of a focussed beam propagating in a random medium having a von Karman spectrum for the index of refraction fluctuations. The author has presented conditions for when the turbulence affects the nature of the beam and has demonstrated the validity of these conditions by comparison with the numerical results. (Author).

Wave Scattering From Statistically Rough Surfaces written by F. G. Bass and has been published by Elsevier this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-10-22 with Science categories.
Wave Scattering from Statistically Rough Surfaces discusses the complications in radio physics and hydro-acoustics in relation to wave transmission under settings seen in nature. Some of the topics that are covered include radar and sonar, the effect of variations in topographic relief or ocean waves on the transmission of radio and sound waves, the reproduction of radio waves from the lower layers of the ionosphere, and the oscillations of signals within the earth-ionosphere waveguide. The book begins with some fundamental idea of wave transmission theory and the theory of random processes as used to rough surfaces and to wave fields. This discussion is followed by an analysis of the average fields of sound and electromagnetic waves. A section on spatial correlation characteristics in the approximation of small perturbations is then given. Another chapter of the text explains the Kirchhoff method. The book will provide useful information to physicists, mechanical engineer, students, and researchers in the field of acoustics.

The past decade has witnessed breakthroughs in the understanding of the wave localization phenomena and its implications for wave multiple scattering in inhomogeneous media. This book brings together review articles written by noted researchers in this field in a tutorial manner so as to give the readers a coherent picture of its status. It would be valuable both as an up-to-date reference for active researchers as well as a readable source for students looking to gain an understanding of the latest results.
