Have you ever wondered how you can maintain your current lifestyle, but not exhaust our planet's resources? In modern times, many of us have environmental knowledge but we lack an understanding of how to apply that knowledge to our everyday lives. Bridging this gap is what has motivated ecological economist Dr Kamaljit Sangha to write this book. Dr Sangha examines how people can make a difference to the environment by proposing little actions at the household scale that can contribute towards saving our planet. This book examines how to:- Minimise the gap between scientific knowledge and public awareness- Reduce the impact of our actions on our natural environment- Maintain our earth's natural resources- Be happier and healthier by recognising our reliance on Mother Nature and re-establishing our connections with nature. Dr Sangha believes there are a few, very easy steps that everyone - whether they reside in the city or the country - can take to save money, their mental and physical health, and ultimately our planet.

The symbiotic nature between man and the earth itself was deeply felt and understood by all. What has happened to this innate connection that we once had? Why do we as a society now feel so far removed from the natural world around us? These questions and many more will be answered within the pages of this book. Throughout these pages you will find new knowledge and inspiring ways to help you to start to remember and reconnect to your own sense of guardianship of the earth which you live upon.So much has been learned and discovered by mankind over the countless generations with the sweeping changes brought about my modern technology and the industrial revolution but this has advanced our ability to construct and take from the earth what we want but at the very same time, taking us far away from the natural knowledge we already had once before. The only way forward, is to go backwards. We need to remember how closely we once were connected to the earth and natural world around us, and go back to basics. To a more simpler and natural way of living our life's, bringing them more fully and closely in harmony with the natural rhythms of the earth itself. To go back to a more natural way of farming, eliminating pesticides and man made chemicals in the growing process which would revolutionise humanity's health and overall sense of well being. The vast amount of illness causing substances that we ingest on a daily basis through our eating of modern industrially mass prodded food is shocking. It's a miracle in itself that we are even still able to function and get by. Instead of enriching us, and nourishing our bodies, the fast food that we are constantly consuming on a daily basis is making us sick and destroying us from the inside out. We need to re find our own innate connection to the earth and the world of nature around us. To get back into the natural flow of life, and instead of cutting ourselves off from the ebb and flow of its seasons, to re align our life's with their natural cycles and to once again live in harmony with the earth and in tune with the wider cosmos. As above, so below, and when mankind is once again living in sync with the earth and the natural world around him, we will find peace and harmony and life will flow more smoothly and effortlessly for all of us who are here.

We live in a century in which we must either change our way of regarding and acting toward nature or else imperil our survival as a species and jeopardize as well the fate of the planet itself. This book by a theologian and environmental scientist examines four religious figures from European and Asian contexts who could aid us in developing a more sustainable and caring orientation, which would allow us to live more "in tune" with creation: twelfth-century German nun Hildegard of Bingen, thirteenth-century Italian monk and patron saint of ecology Francis of Assisi, nineteenth-century Japanese Zen monk and poet Taigu Ryōkan, and the first pontiff from Latin America, twenty-first-century Pope Francis. By emphasizing our intimate and unavoidable organic connection with the network of all life and our charge to care for and protect it, they point us in the direction of a new paradigm, a healthier perspective, a metanoia--a change of heart, mind, attitude, and action--that would partner what we know about nature (an environmental consciousness) with what we do (an ecological conscience). Our children, our grandchildren, and our great-grandchildren deserve at least this much.

Living in harmony with nature is a pervasive ideology, or cultural blueprint, of how a "sustainable future," a "good society," and a "fulfilled life" would look like. However, this notion of harmony with nature is highly paradoxical, as consumers often want and even must dominate and control nature. The current thesis explores consumers' desires of living in harmony with nature through a post-human analysis of how backcountry hikers negotiate tensions between utilitarian and romantic discourses of nature vis-à-vis their experience of material forces of nature. Through conceptualizing nature as an active actor in a symmetric assemblage of material and cultural entities (i.e., nature agency), this thesis contributes to our understanding of the human/nature relationship, materialism, and sustainable consumption. Findings are presenting through three interrelated themes. The first theme highlights how hikers appropriate romantic discourses by seeking harmony in a nature that is perceived as external to civilization. Noting the contradiction that hikers' quest for being in harmony with a "romantic nature" oftentimes exposes them to higher physical dangers in material nature, the subsequent themes explore how harmony can arise when hikers have to struggle with physical dangers of nature. Focusing on physical dangers that are experienced in material nature, theme 2 finds that hikers' relationship with nature is highly ambivalent: They strive to experience "more nature and less civilization", but also "more civilization and less nature." The third theme explores how meanings of nature and technology emerge from fluidly shifting assemblages, finding that the same technological resources can both distract from and enable feelings of harmony with nature. These findings contribute to consumer research by broadening our understanding of the human/nature relationship and by challenging previous notions (Canniford and Shankar 2013) that technology and civilization must always betray consumers' experiences of "romantic nature." Furthermore, the notions of nature agency and that no single actor can unilaterally shape the assemblage of heterogeneous entities contribute to the emerging material turn in consumer research. Finally, this post-human analysis of consumers' relationships with nature offers theoretical and practical implications for sustainable consumption and sustainable marketing.

When is the last time you stood outside and felt the wind upon your face? Or gazed upon the sight of natural wonder so breathtaking that all you could do was to look upon it, trying to drink in every last detail? When is the last time you felt truly connected to nature? When asked, more than half of Americans answered they felt like they needed to connect more with the world outside of their doorway. As much as we'd like to think otherwise, the clear majority of us spend less time than we want. Most average Americans spend less than five hours of the week outside. Somewhere we've lost our way. Do we no longer hold onto a sense of adventure we felt as children? Or worse, have we never actually connected with nature in the first place? Either way, we're missing out on something. Most of us hold a vague feeling of dissatisfaction in our lives and are looking for something we can't even begin to define. Our lives are out of balance, somehow. For most of us, the answer lies in reconnecting with something greater than ourselves. It lies in seeing the world as more than we experience within those same four walls enclosing us every day of our lives. It's certainly not found on a computer screen. Although you are probably reading this on a computer screen right now! Together, let's unplug and find out what lies just beyond your doorway. Discover the richness of life in nature, the joys of being able to breathe deep and be one with the world.Isn't it time to restore what's missing in your life, and discover the peace of nature's balance? You can do so with my book "Natural Harmony".

“A book that offers hope.” —The New York Times Book Review “Richard Louv has done it again. A remarkable book that will help everyone break away from their fixed gaze at the screens that dominate our lives and remember instead that we are animals in a world of animals.” —Bill McKibben, author of Falter Richard Louv’s landmark book, Last Child in the Woods, inspired an international movement to connect children and nature. Now Louv redefines the future of human-animal coexistence. Our Wild Calling explores these powerful and mysterious bonds and how they can transform our mental, physical, and spiritual lives, serve as an antidote to the growing epidemic of human loneliness, and help us tap into the empathy required to preserve life on Earth. Louv interviews researchers, theologians, wildlife experts, indigenous healers, psychologists, and others to show how people are communicating with animals in ancient and new ways; how dogs can teach children ethical behavior; how animal-assisted therapy may yet transform the mental health field; and what role the human-animal relationship plays in our spiritual health. He reports on wildlife relocation and on how the growing populations of wild species in urban areas are blurring the lines between domestic and wild animals. Our Wild Calling makes the case for protecting, promoting, and creating a sustainable and shared habitat for all creatures—not out of fear, but out of love. Transformative and inspiring, this book points us toward what we all long for in the age of technology: real connection.
