COVIDSLAYERS is a must read for every American and all who have been directly or indirectly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. COVIDSLAYERS brings to the surface the heroism and professionalism of doctors, nurses, and other healthcare personnel - the only source of inspiration during this pandemic. It depicts how they went above and beyond the call of duty in the face of adversity for their fellow Americans. The book is inspired by stories, events, and people that influence American lives everyday but are lost in the maze and cacophony of the superficial and make-believe. It brings you face-to-face with the stoicism and resilience of healthcare warriors, the courage and brilliance of Americans in white coats and scrubs, and their compassion and sacrifice in the face of anguish and pain which is raw and difficult to ignore. COVIDSLAYERS portrays triumph of good over evil. The book is a story of the war against the COVID-19 pandemic from the frontlines and from war rooms. It is a unique perspective from a practicing physician and a physician leader - and those of his colleagues at various hospitals and medical practices. COVIDSLAYERS provides to the reader a firsthand account from the inside, taking the reader for a thrilling and emotional ride that is sure to challenge the reader's sensibilities. Devoid of excessive medical jargon, the fast pace of this hard to put down quick read is maintained by the author's deft use of simple, yet pointed language to narrate the tale, toll, and trajectory of the pandemic. COVIDSLAYERS takes the reader on an emotional roller-coaster ride that no one would expect from a book on a pandemic or healthcare. This apolitical book also talks about how the COVID-19 pandemic exposed the weaknesses of the U.S. healthcare system. Did the U.S. healthcare system fail its fearless healthcare warriors? Did the healthcare system fail Americans? The book shows how a bloated healthcare administration has incapacitated a healthcare system that has been the envy of the world. The pandemic is raging, especially in the U.S. Will the second surge be worse than the first surge? Will there be a third surge? With more than 240,000 Americans dead in just 9 months of this pandemic, will we allow more American lives to be devoured by this pandemic? Are we going to succumb or surrender or are we going to rise together as Americans and defeat this virus? COVIDSLAYERS provides and explains strategies to contain and defeat this virus - some of them that are tried and proven, some of them are innovative. It makes clear to the reader what needs to be done to prevent the virus from taking over our lives and our livelihoods.

My e-book under the title ‘India, Defeat Corona’, is a fictional novel. It is aimed at kindling hope and confidence among my readers. We have to draw inspiration from the popular adage that ‘every crisis is an opportunity.’ We all have to learn to live with the virus. Simple methods like ‘social distancing, frequent washing of hands using soap and wearing of masks’ can help us in keeping the virus at bay, to a large extent. Our scientists all over the world are burning their midnight oil in finding a suitable vaccine to contain this pandemic, which seems a possibility by the end of this year. We can’t halt the progress of our economy, just for the fear of one tiny virus. It’s a question of ‘lives Vs livelihood’. Stoppage of economic activities can be more disastrous than the pandemic itself! Thanks to our ‘corona warriors,’ who are working hard to contain the pandemic. Let’s salute our farmers, workers, technocrats, bankmen, businessmen and others, who are daring to go ahead, ignoring the threats of the disease. In fact, what can help us in defeating Covid-19, is our ‘Positive Mental Attitude.’ I am sure that we will win this war of ‘pandemic Vs people.’

CNN chief medical correspondent Sanjay Gupta, MD, offers an accessible, data-packed answer to our biggest questions about Covid-19: What have we learned about this pandemic and how can we prepare for—or prevent—the next one? As America’s favorite frontline Covid-19 health journalist, Dr. Sanjay Gupta has barely left his primetime seat in his makeshift studio basement since the pandemic began (other than to perform brain surgery). He’s had insider access to the drama’s unfolding, including exclusive conversations with the world’s top public health experts and behind-the-scenes scientists racing to find treatments and cures. And now he’s sharing what he’s learned in a book that will answer not only all our questions about what happened, but also about how our world will change in the years ahead, even once we’re back to “normal.” Gupta argues that we need to prepare for a new era where pandemics will be more frequent, and possibly even more deadly. As the doctor who’s been holding America’s hand through the crisis with compassion, clarity, and well-earned wisdom, he gives you the unvarnished story behind the pandemic, including insights about the novel virus’s behavior, and offers practical tools to ready ourselves for what lies ahead. He answers critical questions: Can we stamp out the virus for good (and if not, how do we live with it)? Should we put our parents in a nursing home? Where should we live? What should we stockpile? What should we know before taking a trip? Does it make sense to spend more on health insurance to deal with any long-term effects? How do you decide when it’s safe to go to a public pool or schedule elective surgery? What should Covid survivors know about protecting their future health? What if you become a long-hauler with chronic health challenges stemming? World War C will give you hope for the future along with real information that leaves you more resilient and secure.

Using COVID-19 as a base, this groundbreaking book brings together several renowned scholars to explore the concept of crisis, and how this global event has shaped the discipline of psychology. It engages directly with the challenges that psychology continues to face when theorizing societal issues of gender, race, class, history, and culture, while not disregarding "lived" experiences. This edited volume offers a set of pathways to rethink psychology beyond its current scope and history to become more apt to the conditions, needs, and demands of the 21st century. The book explores topics like resilience, interpersonal relationships, mistrust in the government, and access to healthcare. Dividing the book into three distinct sections, the contributors first examine the current crisis within psychology, then go on to explore how psychology theorizes the subject and the other in a social world of perpetual political, economic, cultural, and social crises, and lastly consider the role of crises in the creation of new theorizing. This is essential reading for advanced undergraduate and postgraduate students of theoretical and philosophical psychology, social psychology, community psychology, and developmental psychology.

A mysterious virus from China takes the whole world in its grip within weeks, creating an unprecedented global pandemic. Third year into the pandemic, the world is still grappling to know mysteries behind origin of the virus. Did it come from the Wuhan animal market? Did it leak from the Wuhan Institute of Virology? Was it accidental or deliberate? With millions of lives lost, billions of lives shattered, and trillions lost in economy, geopolitical power equations are being rewritten every other day. In the spectre of a post-pandemic disruption, can the humbled superpower the United States of America, hold itself as the leader of free nations or lose its dominance to a resurgent China? The meticulously researched book ‘A Disrupted World,’ covers such tantalising topics in a gripping manner. It then unravels grim milestones in India’s tryst with the pandemic, the unlearnt lessons from the first wave that ultimately led to a catastrophic second wave, leaving behind a trail of despair, devastation, and death. It also highlights the plight of the common man caught between a pandemic on the one hand and an infodemic on the other, his world shattered by fear, loss, and grief. The book touches upon the basics of the structure of the virus and its variants, highlighting the amazing science behind the development of Covid 19 vaccines in record time, reiterating the dangers arising out of emerging variants and critically asking how long the existing vaccines can save us from these emerging variants? And how far are we from the arrival of an elusive cure? And finally, it takes us all through the most pertinent question- Can we ever win the war against the pandemic, or Will it go on forever?

A leading epidemiologist shares his "powerful and necessary" (Richard Preston, author of The Hot Zone) stories from the front lines of our war on infectious diseases and explains how to prepare for global epidemics -- featuring a new preface on COVID-19. Unlike natural disasters, whose destruction is concentrated in a limited area over a period of days, and illnesses, which have devastating effects but are limited to individuals and their families, infectious disease has the terrifying power to disrupt everyday life on a global scale, overwhelming public and private resources and bringing trade and transportation to a grinding halt. In today's world, it's easier than ever to move people, animals, and materials around the planet, but the same advances that make modern infrastructure so efficient have made epidemics and even pandemics nearly inevitable. And as outbreaks of COVID-19, Ebola, MERS, and Zika have demonstrated, we are woefully underprepared to deal with the fallout. So what can -- and must -- we do in order to protect ourselves from mankind's deadliest enemy? Drawing on the latest medical science, case studies, policy research, and hard-earned epidemiological lessons, Deadliest Enemy explores the resources and programs we need to develop if we are to keep ourselves safe from infectious disease. The authors show how we could wake up to a reality in which many antibiotics no longer cure, bioterror is a certainty, and the threat of a disastrous influenza or coronavirus pandemic looms ever larger. Only by understanding the challenges we face can we prevent the unthinkable from becoming the inevitable. Deadliest Enemy is high scientific drama, a chronicle of medical mystery and discovery, a reality check, and a practical plan of action.

In the era of COVID-19, many people have suffered high levels of stress and mental health problems. To cope with the widespread of suffering (physical, psychological, social, and economical) the positive psychology of personal happiness is no longer the sole approach to examine personal wellbeing. Other approaches such as Viktor Frankl’s theory of self-transcendence provide a promising framework for research and intervention on how to achieve resilience, wellbeing, and happiness through overcoming suffering and self-transcendence. The existential positive psychology of suffering complements the positive psychology of happiness, which is championed by Martin Seligman, as two equal halves of the circle of wellbeing and optimal mental health. This Research Topic aims to examine the different approaches to Positive Psychology and their influence on individual wellbeing during the COVID-19 era. One of the exciting development in the positive psychology of wellbeing is the mounting research on the adaptive benefits of negative emotions, such as shame, guilt, and anger, as well as the dialectical process of balancing negative and positive emotions. As an example, based on all the empirical research and Frankl’s self-transcendence model, Wong has developed the existential positive psychology of suffering (PP2.0) as the foundation for flourishing. Here are a few main tenets of PP2.0: (1) Life is suffering and a constant struggle throughout every stage of development, (2) The search for self-transcendence is a primary motive guided by the meaning mindset and mindful mindset. (3) Wellbeing cannot be sustainable without overcoming and transforming suffering. In this Research Topic we welcome diverse approaches discussing the following points: • The dialectic process of overcoming the challenges of every stage of development as necessary for personal growth and self-transcendence; • The role of self-transcendence in resilience, virtue, meaning, and happiness; • The upside of negative emotions; • The new science of resilience based on cultivating the resilient mindset and character; • How to make the best use of suffering to achieve out potentials & mental health.
