Knowledge existing in modern information systems usually comes from many sources and is mapped in many ways. There is a real need for representing “knowledge pieces” as rather universal objects that should fit to multi-purpose a- ing systems. According to great number of information system’s tasks, knowledge representation is more or less detailed (e.g. some level of its granularity is - sumed). The main goal of this paper is to present chosen aspects of expressing granularity of knowledge implemented in intelligent systems. One of the main r- sons of granularity phenomena is diversification of knowledge sources, therefore the next section is devoted to this issue. 2. Heterogeneous Knowledge as a Source for Intelligent Systems Knowledge, the main element of so-called intelligent applications and systems, is very often heterogeneous. This heterogeneity concerns the origin of knowledge, its sources as well as its final forms of presentation. In this section the selected c- teria of knowledge differentiation will be presented, in the context of potential sources of knowledge acquisition. In Fig. 1 an environment of intelligent systems is shown, divided into different knowledge sources for the system. Fig. 1. Potential knowledge sources for intelligent information/reasoning system. Collections of digital documents can nowadays be found everywhere in institutions, universities or companies. Examples are Web sites or intranets. But searching them for information can still be painful. Searches often return either large numbers of matches or no suitable matches at all. Such document collections can vary a lot in size and how much structure they carry. What they have in common is that they typically do have some structure and that they cover a limited range of topics. The second point is significantly different from the Web in general. The type of search system that we propose in this book can suggest ways of refining or relaxing the query to assist a user in the search process. In order to suggest sensible query modifications we would need to know what the documents are about. Explicit knowledge about the document collection encoded in some electronic form is what we need. However, typically such knowledge is not available. So we construct it automatically.

This volume contains the papers selected for presentation at the 10th Int- national Conference on Rough Sets, Fuzzy Sets, Data Mining, and Granular Computing, RSFDGrC 2005, organized at the University of Regina, August 31st–September 3rd, 2005. This conference followed in the footsteps of inter- tional events devoted to the subject of rough sets, held so far in Canada, China, Japan,Poland,Sweden, and the USA. RSFDGrC achievedthe status of biennial international conference, starting from 2003 in Chongqing, China. The theory of rough sets, proposed by Zdzis law Pawlak in 1982, is a model of approximate reasoning. The main idea is based on indiscernibility relations that describe indistinguishability of objects. Concepts are represented by - proximations. In applications, rough set methodology focuses on approximate representation of knowledge derivable from data. It leads to signi?cant results in many areas such as ?nance, industry, multimedia, and medicine. The RSFDGrC conferences put an emphasis on connections between rough sets and fuzzy sets, granularcomputing, and knowledge discoveryand data m- ing, both at the level of theoretical foundations and real-life applications. In the case of this event, additional e?ort was made to establish a linkage towards a broader range of applications. We achieved it by including in the conference program the workshops on bioinformatics, security engineering, and embedded systems, as well as tutorials and sessions related to other application areas.

This book compiles a comprehensive collection of pioneering research that addresses the multifaceted challenges and theoretical aspects of Generative AI in creative industries. Generative AI, a groundbreaking technological development, has been carving a significant niche within the creative industries. This innovative form of AI, exemplified by models like OpenAI's ChatGPT, is not only transforming the landscape of human-like text generation but is also radically reshaping creative fields such as music, literature, and visual arts. In the realm of creative industries, Generative AI serves as a catalyst for artistic innovation, offering tools for artists to push the boundaries of creativity. It assists in composing music, generating unique artworks, and even writing stories or scripts, thereby democratizing the creative process. The integration of Generative AI in these industries promises a synergy between human creativity and machine intelligence, potentially leading to novel genres and forms of art. Despite its transformative potential, the incorporation of Generative AI in creative fields is not devoid of challenges. Ethical considerations, such as authorship rights, originality, and the impact on traditional creative roles, are pivotal. Moreover, the authenticity and emotional depth of AI-generated content compared to human-created art is a subject of ongoing debate. The book aims to feature original manuscripts encompassing a wide array of topics, from the development of new generative technologies and their practical application in creative fields, to critical analysis of the ethical, legal, and cultural implications of these systems. By gathering the latest advancements in this field and spotlighting emerging avenues for research, this book serves as an invaluable resource and guide for researchers, artists, and practitioners operating at the intersection of Generative AI and creative industries.
