Entgegen allgemeiner Auffassung ist der Zodiakus (Tierkreis) hellenistischer Prägung, wie er uns heute allgemein bekannt ist, und von der praktizierenden esoterischen Astrologie zur Deutung von Planetenkonstellationen genutzt wird (z.B. Horoskop), keineswegs ein esoterisch-mythisches Konstrukt, sondern die Formulierung eines theoretischen Modells des Wirklichen, daß in allen seinen Teilen und ausnahmslos auf der Logik basiert – dem schlüssigen Denken in zwingenden Notwendigkeiten. Der Zodiakus als theoretisches Wirklichkeitsmodell steht dabei in seiner Formulierung in keinem Detail im Widerspruch zu den gesicherten Grundlagen der modernen Naturwissenschaften – als ihr geistiger Überbau geht er aber noch über sie hinaus und definiert letztlich die fundamentalen Grundlagen des Wirklichen. Diese Behauptung steht im harten Widerspruch zur allgemeinen Auffassung gegenüber dem Tierkreis innerhalb der Wissenschaften – nicht weniger steht sie im Widerspruch zur praktizierenden Astrologie. Es ist an der Zeit sich zu erinnern, daß die letzten "Konstrukteure" des Tierkreises zu hellenistischer Zeit immerhin die "Erfinder" der Logik waren ... "Gläubige", wie auch "Ungläubige" dürften gleichermaßen überrascht werden.

This multi-disciplinary study covers the daimon within astrology proper as well as the daimon and astrology in wider cultural practices including divination, Gnosticism, Mithraism and Neo-Platonism. It explores relationships between the daimon and fate and Daimon and Tyche (fortune or chance), and the doctrine of lots as exemplified in Plato’s Myth of Er. In finding the impact of Egyptian and Mesopotamian ideas of fate on Hellenistic astrology, it critically examines astrology’s perception as propounding an unalterable destiny.
