On July 4, 1987 the definitive Welcome Home events for the Vietnam veterans took place in Washington DC, aired on HBO, and included a vast number of celebrities/musical entertainers in a 5-hour+ extravaganza that Congress declared as the official Welcome Home day for the vets. The event raised consciousness about vet issues and also millions of dollars for vet causes through the associated 501(c)(3) foundation, Welcome Home, Inc. As benefit concerts go, wrote the New York Post, 'Welcome Home' was a more unified and successful event, in terms of both its music and its message, than such well-intentioned spiritual brethren as 'Live Aid' and 'Farm Aid'. Beyond The Wall covers the origins and making of the events, while capturing the essence of the Baby Boom generation and the history that marked their lives. Since my mother was the Welcome Home founder and exec producer, this work is also a very personal family tale and labor of love.

"Welcome Home : a monument of honor" is must-read, unique book written and produced as the historical American legacy dedicated to the honor, the dignity and humanity of Vietnam veterans. It is produced as an elegant, coffee-table style volume. Ross Lewis, Army veteran and author, traveled 20,000 miles, through fourteen states between 2010 and 2013 to personally visit and interview Army, Navy, Marine, and Air Force Vietnam veterans (men and women) to collect their precious stories and brilliant non-combat photographs of Vietnam. The powerful biographies include veterans who served in Vietnam from early 1954 through the evacuation of Saigon, twenty-one ears later in April, 1975. The collection of brilliant photographs, taken by the veterans, are non-paralleled in the history of Vietnam books. The personal stories include: Early American advisor's between 1957 through 1964; sailors aboard the USS Maddox in the 1964 Gulf of Tonkin incident. A marine medal of honor recipient who later became a three-star general; an Air Force chaplain who speaks about his own personal service and struggles; two West Point graduates who served in 1964 and 1966; a Marine Forward Observer who endured the siege of the Khe Sahn; a brown water naval officer who served in the Mekong Delta and, later, rose to the rank of four-star admiral,; and Air Force Special Commando who operated within a "team of twenty", the last Marine to "pull colors" during the evacuation of civilians and military personnel from the embattled city of Saigon. "Welcome Home : a Monument of Honor" is also a perfect gift to Vietnam veterans and their families. It serves as an American tribute to Vietnam veterans-- Taken from Amazon.com July 28, 2014.

Welcome Home: The Army and My Vietnam, is a series of documentary-style stories of a Veteran's experiences in the Army both stateside and during his combat tour in Vietnam. From boot camp to his return home and living with the aftermath of his experiences, this is a very personal perspective on the Army, the war and our society as seen through the eyes of a soldier. Welcome Home offers an historically accurate account from someone who served during a time when our country did not support our Veterans or appreciate their service. Most of these stories have never been told. Bits and pieces now and then have been shared with family and friends but never entirely and never in detail. The author's two years in the Army shaped the rest of his life and he decided to share his experiences for other Veterans who have never told their stories. This book was written for them, his family, friends and for himself. The book's message is one of hope. It is never too late no matter how long it has been, or how difficult the road, there is always hope. Every individual needs to take the necessary steps to change and make things better for themselves. Fortunately, there is a myriad of resources available today for Veterans of all conflicts. Society is now supportive and our government is providing improved care at all levels for our Veterans as are many private organizations. Personal note from the author: I encourage all Vietnam Veterans to write about their experiences. Those days and times are part of our lives and should not be forgotten. Unfortunately, many of us are dying without sharing these stories. My hope is that any Veteran who reads this book would be inspired to write about his or her own stories for their families, future generations and themselves. The exercise brings clarity and closure to that chapter of our lives.

Returning Home From Iraq And Afghanistan written by Institute of Medicine and has been published by National Academies Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-04-12 with Medical categories.

As of December 2012, Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) in Afghanistan and Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) in Iraq have resulted in the deployment of about 2.2 million troops; there have been 2,222 US fatalities in OEF and Operation New Dawn (OND)1 and 4,422 in OIF. The numbers of wounded US troops exceed 16,000 in Afghanistan and 32,000 in Iraq. In addition to deaths and morbidity, the operations have unforeseen consequences that are yet to be fully understood. In contrast with previous conflicts, the all-volunteer military has experienced numerous deployments of individual service members; has seen increased deployments of women, parents of young children, and reserve and National Guard troops; and in some cases has been subject to longer deployments and shorter times at home between deployments. Numerous reports in the popular press have made the public aware of issues that have pointed to the difficulty of military personnel in readjusting after returning from Iraq and Afghanistan. Many of those who have served in OEF and OIF readjust with few difficulties, but others have problems in readjusting to home, reconnecting with family members, finding employment, and returning to school. In response to the return of large numbers of veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan with physical-health and mental-health problems and to the growing readjustment needs of active duty service members, veterans, and their family members, Congress included Section 1661 of the National Defense Authorization Act for fiscal year 2008. That section required the secretary of defense, in consultation with the secretary of veterans affairs, to enter into an agreement with the National Academies for a study of the physical-health, mental-health, and other readjustment needs of members and former members of the armed forces who were deployed in OIF or OEF, their families, and their communities as a result of such deployment. The study consisted of two phases. The Phase 1 task was to conduct a preliminary assessment. The Phase 2 task was to provide a comprehensive assessment of the physical, psychologic, social, and economic effects of deployment on and identification of gaps in care for members and former members, their families, and their communities. The Phase 1 report was completed in March 2010 and delivered to the Department of Defense (DOD), the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), and the relevant committees of the House of Representatives and the Senate. The secretaries of DOD and VA responded to the Phase 1 report in September 2010. Returning Home from Iraq and Afghanistan: Assessment of Readjustment Needs of Veterans, Service Members, and Their Families fulfills the requirement for Phase 2.

Sacrifices written by James Nathan Post and has been published by iUniverse this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2001 with Fiction categories.

"Somebody has to make the sacrifices," Warrant Officer Kevin Harrey's young wife Carlie told him when he left home to fly Army helicopter gunships in Vietnam. Though highly decorated as a combat hero, he came home in disgrace for smoking marijuana. Eddie Padilla was his mother's sacrifice, but all he wanted was to impress his buddy Big Roger Stanton. Battle-scarred Major Jake Csynes needed the war professionally and personally, and he expected his gun-packing Daggers to back him up all the way, and beyond. Though fictional, the combat action is thrillingly authentic, and the postwar drama of those who went, those who died, and those who waited for them, is moving and provocative even after so much has been written, and so long has passed.
