A young man was born and raised in the turbulent times of the 1960s Civil Rights Era. Raised by a mother who was a die-hard regregationist, and who was an avid member of the Ku Klux Klan. The boys father finally abandoned his family, After he had been attacked by the klan, and beaten within an inch of his life. Frustrated by his wifes bigoted attitude, and her insistence in her effort to try turning their son into a bigot. The boys father solved his situation by joining the Army and going off to the Korean War, and sending his wife checks to help her and the boy survive during the time he would be away. Once the boy was in his late teens, he felt like his mother was smothering his efforts to think for himself. So he joined the Marines, and with his being indoctrinated with thoughts and ideas taught to him by both his mother and the Klan, he now studied in depth, the blacks he saw. He was mixed in his feelings about black people, but, he had a very limited contact with other people of color. This was a way to find out for himself, whether his mother and the klan were right about the things they were trying to teach him. When he entered the Marines, and after basic training, he was shipped out to Tan Sunut Air Base in Vietnam. He was housed in a barracks where he found a situation that he couldnt control. A situation where he was housed with young men of all races. How he copes with what hes discovered as a member of the Marine Corps, is what this story is all about. How he is transformed from a full blown biget whos younger life was completely dominated by the teachings of his mother, and the not too subtle ways of the K K K. Into a young man, who through the oral as well as the physical teachings of the corp, was turned into a true Marine. But! this is not story about Viet Nam it is the story of how hes truly transformed after he returns from Viet Nam. But! You, the reader, will have to come to your own conclusions about this story.

Don T Say Goodbye written by Fiona Stanford and has been published by Hachette UK this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-02-03 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

When you fall in love with someone serving in the Armed Forces, it’s hard to imagine the impact their career will have on your life. In Don’t Say Goodbye, Fiona Stanford tells the untold story of the people left behind when our soldiers go off to fight. She reveals the hidden side to modern conflict – the story of the families, but in particular the wives, girlfriends, mothers and children – how it feels to live on a knife edge, bombarded with 24-hour news and footage of the war, and the constant terror that the next death you hear about on the television or the radio might be your loved one. Through tales of the Army lifestyle, she explains the reply to the age old question: ‘How do you cope?’ which is usually: ‘You just get on with it’ Fiona’s husband handed over command of the 1st Battalion Welsh Guards to Lt Col Rupert Thorneloe before they deployed to Afghanistan in 2009, During the tour seven of their men were killed, including Rupert, and many were wounded. Here she shares the rewards and challenges of Army life – the desperate goodbyes with young children in tow, the bittersweet sense of pride and the huge relief of homecoming. She also tells of other goodbyes; to friends when ‘posted on’, to children when they go away to school and the ultimate goodbye, revealing the heartache of families whose loved ones do not return. This is a story of love – how love can survive and even grow when couples are separated by thousands of miles and days of anguish. Don’t Say Goodbye sheds light on the unique camaraderie that develops amongst the women as they pull each other through the toughest of times. Poignant, inspiring and deeply moving, this book is a tribute to the women and families that support our heroes on the frontline.

Lethal Warriors written by David Philipps and has been published by St. Martin's Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-11-09 with Political Science categories.

When the 506th Infantry Regiment—known since World War II as the Band of Brothers—returned to Colorado Springs after their first tour in Iraq, a series of brutal crimes swept through the city. The Band of Brothers had been deployed to the most violent places in Iraq, and some of the soldiers were suffering from what they had seen and done in combat. Without much time to recover, they were sent back to the front lines. After their second tour of duty, the battalion was renamed the Lethal Warriors, and, true to their name, the soldiers once again brought the violence home. Lethal Warriors brings to life the chilling true stories of these veterans—from their enlistment and multiple tours of duty to their struggles with ptsd and their failure to reintegrate in society. With piercing insight and employing his relentless investigative skills, journalist David Philipps shines a light not only to this particular unit, but also to the painful reality of ptsd as it rages throughout the country. By exploring the evolving the science and the stigma of war trauma throughout history—from "shell shock" to "battle fatigue" to "combat stress injuries"—Philipps shows that this problem has always existed and that, as the nature of warfare changes, it is only getting worse. In highlighting the inspiring stories of the resilient men and women in the armed forces who have the courage to confront the issue and offer a potential lifeline to the soldiers, Lethal Warriors challenges us to deal openly, honestly, and intelligently with the true costs of war.

Our Street is the perfect companion to Gilda O'Neill's bestselling My East End. This book focuses on the lives of Londoners in the East End during the Second World War. Showing the concerns, hopes and fears of these so-called 'ordinary people' Our Street illustrates these times by looking at the every day rituals which marked the patterns of daily life during WWII. It is an important book and also an affectionate record of an often fondly remembered, more communal, way of life that has all but disappeared.
