Konstruktivistische Ideen und buddhistische Lehre haben mehr gemeinsam als allgemein gedacht. Werner Vogd zeigt jene Gemeinsamkeiten auf, die sich von anderen philosophischen oder religiösen Anschauungen radikal unterscheiden. Er macht dies an drei Leitgedanken fest: (1) Der Versuch, sich selbst zu finden, führt in die Irre. In uns ist letztlich nichts anderes zu finden als Projektionen, die verschleiern, dass es das Selbst als isolierbaren Wesenskern nicht gibt. (2) Konstruktivismus und Buddhismus weisen den Anspruch zurück, aus unseren Erfahrungen eine absolute Wahrheit oder eine explizite Sinngebung abzuleiten. Maturana und Varela sprechen von der Zwecklosigkeit aller biologischen Formen, die buddhistische Lehre betont immer wieder die Essenz- und Substanzlosigkeit all unseres sinnlichen Erlebens. (3) In der rational nicht greifbaren Basis unseres Seins zeigt sich jedoch eine unerwartete Tiefendimension. Jenseits äußerlicher Vorschriften und Regeln offenbart sich im menschlichen Sein eine implizite Ordnung: Mitgefühl und Liebe. In diesem Sinne kann der Dialog zwischen Buddhismus und Konstruktivismus für alle Partner ein Nachhausekommen bedeuten. Wir lernen, in einer Welt ohne Grund heimisch zu werden, und beginnen, unser Leben als Praxis oder als Übung zu begreifen. Diese Übung ist die Übung schlechthin: Es geht um die Kunst des Lebens als Kultivierung der Fähigkeit, das Geschenk der Vergänglichkeit annehmen zu können und auf einer tiefen Ebene glücklich zu sein.
