Kein Weltfriede ohne Religionsfriede. Kein Religionsfriede ohne Religionsdialog.“ Mit diesen Worten beginnt Hans Küngs vielbeachtetes Werk aus dem Jahr 2000. Das Projekt Weltethos scheint, gerade angesichts der aktuellen weltweiten politischen Situation, nichts an Aktualität oder Brisanz verloren zu haben. Eher im Gegenteil: Weist es doch einen möglichen Weg zu mehr Verständnis und Toleranz innerhalb der Menschheit auf. Hans Küng hat das Projekt Weltethos bewusst als ein „Projekt“ bezeichnet, um dies als einen vorläufigen Versuch zu versinnbildlichen. Der Weg dorthin könne, so Küng, nur über einen Dialog der Weltreligionen führen. Innerhalb dieses Dialogs müssen die Gemeinsamkeiten der Weltreligionen herausgearbeitet werden, bieten sie doch – wie später noch präzisiert wird – die Basis für einen Minimalkonsens an humanen und ethischen Grundforderungen: Ein Kanon an Forderungen, der von den Menschen aller Religionen mitgetragen werden kann und somit die Basis für eine gemeinsame ethische Norm bietet. Doch kann das Projekt Weltethos überhaupt nur ansatzweise das leisten, was es zu leisten proklamiert? Kann ein gemeinsames Weltethos sowohl Menschen als einzelne Individuen als auch Völkergemeinschaften zum Zweck des Friedens dienen? Spielt in der heutigen politischen und sozialen Weltordnung, in der immer weitere Bereiche von der Globalisierung erfasst werden, die Religion überhaupt noch eine prägende, gar tragende Rolle? Eine Rolle, der sie nach Küng zuvorderst gerecht werden muss, um den Religionsfrieden - und dem darin übergeordneten Weltfrieden – überhaupt erst zu ermöglichen? Oder ist die Religion, gerade in den westlichen laizistischen Staatssystemen lediglich zu einer rein persönlichen, individuellen Angelegenheit verkümmert, ohne als Ganzes noch prägenden Einfluss auf Politik und Gesellschaft auszuüben? Konträr dazu steht der von den liberalen Medien hochstilisierte, Rückfall der Entwicklungs- und Schwellenländer in religiösen Traditionalismus und Fundamentalismus.

This volume discusses the aesthetic and cognitive challenges of modern picturebooks from different countries, such as Denmark, France, Germany, Norway, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom, and USA.
