We all have freedom of choice. Nobody is telling you what you must do. It is your conscience that you have to live with! As we look around us these days, do you notice how the world has changed? We went from better to worse, worse to horrific and we're heading from horrific to dread? We can have the power to control situations, only if we raise the levels of our own consciousness and get back to basics. Remember when we wore white shirts and black ties for assembly? When your parents told you to do something you didn't ask why, you just did it? When No One is Looking is about bringing "Integrity" back into our lives and being more conscious of decisions we make and actions we take which can make this a better world. "The most influential tool we have in your entire arsenal is your integrity." - Zig Zigler "Only a person with integrity has the ability to command a long time respect and admiration, young or old, rich or poor. It doesn't matter what you have now, you can live with integrity and elegance and you can take utmost pride in that. That is because integrity is something you decide to have. It is a principle you chose to live by. Each of us will someday, be judged by our standard of life, not by the standard of living; by our measure of giving, not by our measure of wealth; by our simple goodness, not by seeming greatness" - William Arthur Ward

There is no life without emotion. Our emotions are as real as anything about us. This is a truth to which each of us can testify from our own lives. Is anything more real than Fear? Hope? Joy? Anger? Despair? Love? But what are they? They affect us, but how do they do this? What are they for? Emotions are not objects. We can't put Anger on a slide and examine it under a microscope. We are unable to grow a culture of Joy in a petri dish of chicken broth. We cannot determine the chemical formula of Despair. We can't measure the protein content of Jealousy or isolate the DNA of Love. But we can learn about the nature, function, and performance of emotions-what they are and what they are not-and how we, as individual human beings, can exert some measure of influence over our own emotion experiences. Life is all about emotions: positive versus negative, human versus non-human, false versus real. Here you will learn about yourself and what makes you tick-an emotional journey you'll soon discover is worth the taking. About the Author: David Scruton is a Professor Emeritus of Anthropology who taught for thirty-five years. He has been engaged in academic writing for the past fifty years, and is the author of Sociophobics: the Anthropology of Fear. Scruton, who makes his home in Golden, Colorado, is currently engaged in a work of fiction, which he describes as a romantic thriller. This book is a response to Antonio Damasio’s Looking for Spinoza: Joy, Sorrow and the Feeling Brain. Damasio, a prominent neuroscientist, begins by explaining what the latest discoveries in the neurosciences tell us about human psychology. He rejects the two prominent models of human psychology since the Western Enlightenment, the blank slate and dualism. Instead, says Damasio, we now know that the brain and body are completely integrated through a complex system of neural maps. Damasio’s recognition of the complete unity of body, brain and mind leads him to the conclusion that we have to develop ideas and ideas of ideas and use them to reform our neural maps. This book presents Damasio’s own ideas about the most “serious” questions in life that we ought to use to reform ourselves and our societies, including homeostasis; spirituality; feelings; suffering and death; the value of religious traditions; and the value of the philosophical path to God among others. The book presents additional positions on the same serious questions from perspectives that it is hoped Damasio will consider adding to or, in some cases, replacing, his position. Most of the book is a discussion of many aspects of Ancient Greek culture, showing how it developed into a complex cultural system that aimed to create exactly the kind of integrated system of neural maps that Damasio claims is so important for us today. As such, this book strives to contribute to our collective need to reform our system of education based on our new understanding of the nature of the human psyche.

"This book comprehensively details the path of feeling. Once one has a long drink of the experience of feeling that Callahan writes about, it will be difficult to quench one’s thirst for it with less." -Timothy S. Bennett, writer, artist and filmmaker "An owner’s manual for Sane Human Being! Pretty soon you’ll reclaim who you have always been, who you came here to be: deep and authentic feeling, conscious life, and a chance to play a part in the healing of our collective nightmare." -Malidoma Patrice Somé, PhD, author, healer, African Shaman "For modern seekers, responding to the call for initiation into relationship, here is an open invitation. As with all true rites of passage, there is no promise of safety along the way, and, the potential for transformation is boundless." -Sally Erickson, artist, psychotherapist, community organizer, and film producer. This book is about feelings, and the ways that we, as individuals and as a culture, have numbed ourselves against them. It is about unleashing the possibility of using your conscious feelings to re-shape your life around what really matters to you. Conscious Feelings introduces readers to the concept of the "personal numbness bar" –– a measure set high by modern culture as a way of keeping everything "cool," under control, and consequently out of touch. This book provides the insight and the means for lowering that numbness bar. "You can feel more wisely and effectively," the author asserts. You can regain the intelligence and energy of your feelings, so long denied and dressed up to appear acceptable. "Being cool," Callahan states, "allows you to look the other way about schooling, prescription drugs, corporate wrongdoing, corruption, pollution, injustice, your life purpose, your love life, and your job," and to accept the generic malaise that characterizes so many ordinary relationships. The central framework of the book is built with the Ten Distinctions for Consciously Feeling, including: Learning the potent difference between thoughts and feelings. Sorting out feelings (based in the present) from emotions (based in the past, on cultural or religious beliefs). Experiencing how feelings are absolutely-neutral energy and information, neither good nor bad, neither positive nor negative, yet extremely useful in your adult life. Each chapter is enriched with THOUGHTMAPS—clear diagrams of ways you presently think and ways you could possibly think—supported by an abundance of practical experiments t

From David Cristofano, the Edgar Award-nominated author of The Girl She Used to Be, comes a poignant, darkly witty story about the ties that bind us together . . . and the choices that rip us apart. No loose ends. It's the Bovaro family motto. As part of the Bovaro clan, one of the most powerful and respected families in organized crime, Jonathan knows what he must do: take out Melody Grace McCartney, the woman whose testimony can lock up his father and disgrace his entire family. The only problem: he can't bring himself to do it. Had Jonathan kept his silence, Melody and her parents would never have been identified and lured into the Witness Protection Program, able to run but never to hide. So he keeps her safe the only way he knows how-by vowing to clean up his own mess while acting as her shield. But as he watches her take on another new identity in yet another new town, becoming a beautiful but broken woman, Jonathan can't get her out of his mind . . . or his heart. From the streets of Little Italy to a refuge that promises a fresh start, Jonathan will be forced to choose between the life he's always known, the destiny his family has carved out for him, and a future unlike anything he's ever imagined.
