#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • The late, beloved Rachel Held Evans answers many children's first question about God in this gorgeous picture book, fully realized by her friend Matthew Paul Turner, the bestselling author of When God Made You. Children who are introduced to God, through attending church or having loved ones who speak about God, often have a lot of questions, including this ever-popular one: What is God like? The late Rachel Held Evans loved the Bible and loved showing God’s love through the words and pictures found in that ancient text. Through these pictures from the Bible, children see that God is like a shepherd, God is like a star, God is like a gardener, God is like the wind, and more. God is a comforter and support. And whenever a child is unsure, What Is God Like? encourages young hearts to “think about what makes you feel safe, what makes you feel loved, and what makes you feel brave. That's what God is like.”

No More Faking Fine written by Esther Fleece Allen and has been published by Zondervan this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-01-10 with Religion categories.

Scripture reveals a God who meets us where we are, not where we pretend to be. No More Faking Fine is your invitation to get honest with God through the life-giving language of lament. If you've ever been given empty clichés during challenging times, you know how painful it is to be misunderstood by well-meaning people. When life hurts, we often feel pressure--from others and ourselves--to keep it together, suck it up, or pray it away. But Scripture reveals a God who lovingly invites us to give honest voice to our emotions when life hits hard. For most of her life, Esther Fleece Allen believed she could bypass the painful emotions of her broken past by shutting them down altogether. She was known as an achiever and an overcomer on the fast track to success. But in silencing her pain, she robbed herself of the opportunity to be healed. Maybe you've done the same. Esther's journey into healing began when she discovered that God has given us a real-world way to deal with raw emotions and an alternative to the coping mechanisms that end up causing more pain. It's called lament--the gut-level, honest prayer that God never ignores, never silences, and never wastes. No More Faking Fine is your permission to lament, taking you on a journey down the unexpected pathway to true intimacy with God. Drawing from careful biblical study and hard-won insight, Esther reveals how to use God's own language to come closer to him as he leads us through our pain to the light on the other side, teaching you that: We are robbing ourselves of a divine mystery and a divine intimacy when we pretend to have it all together God does not expect us to be perfect; instead, he meets us where we are There is hope beyond your heartache, disappointment, and grief Like Esther, you'll soon find that when one person stops faking fine, it gives everyone else permission to do the same.

What God Is Like written by and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018 with categories.

This book challenges the aloof and forbidding God of contemporary popular imagination. It reveals a warm, attractive and welcoming God. The book opens with the friendship of God. This not only presents God at His most appealing but also provides a helpful starting point for understanding the universe and our place in it. God is a social being and He has embedded this sociability into the very fabric of creation. The social universe in which we live is a projection of the personality, spirituality and moral character of God. Following discussion of the reliability and predictability of God, the indivisibility of God's character is introduced. God's unfailing commitment to mercy and justice is found to result from the seamless blend of love and law revealed in His character. The order and harmony of the universe are then shown to depend upon universal assent to God's principles of law and morality. When rebellion broke out in heaven and came to the earth, God's response to it is a compelling case study in moral integrity. The life and teachings of Jesus reveal what God is like, so selected passages from the life of Jesus are examined to highlight God's generosity. Four principles of interpretation are advanced to help readers of Scripture approach "problem" passages that seem to reflect poorly on God's character. This framework for understanding avoids the problem of hasty judgment and reveals the mercy of God in even the most confronting passages. More on Jesus in the New Testament follows, including the parable of the prodigal son. This parable provides a wonderful insight into the mind of God. It confirms the sheer attractiveness of God's personality and character and provides a prism through which to view the characteristics of God outlined in the final chapters. These chapters are concerned with the sovereignty of God; the power and greatness of God; the justice and impartiality of God; the proportionality of God; and the wisdom and patience of God. The chapter on the justice and impartiality of God includes discussion of an issue that confronts all of us at one time or another. It reveals that tragedy and adversity are not necessarily connected to human guilt. When bad things happen, it is always wise to withhold judgment about those affected. The chapter on the proportionality of God deals with special questions concerning God's administration of justice, especially belief in eternal torment. This is a crucial chapter for our understanding of God's character. When all the Scriptural evidence is weighed the result is a complete vindication of God's proportionality. The process of punishment is not endless but the effect of punishment is irreversible and eternal. The profile of God that emerges from this book is profoundly appealing. In examining the character of God, we are brought face to face with the great themes of human existence: the purpose of life; the reality of death; love; free will; morality; good and evil; and destiny.

The author of Desiring God reveals the biblical evidence to help us see and savor what the pleasures of God show us about Him. Includes a study guide for individual and small-group use. Isn’t it true—we really don’t know someone until we understand what makes that person happy? And so it is with God! What does bring delight to the happiest Being in the universe? John Piper writes, that it’s only when we know what makes God glad that we’ll know the greatness of His glory. Therefore, we must comprehend “the pleasures of God.” Unlike so much of what is written today, this is not a book about us. It is about the One we were made for—God Himself. In this theological masterpiece—chosen by World Magazine as one of the 20th Century’s top 100 books, John Piper reveals the biblical evidence to help us see and savor what the pleasures of God show us about Him. Then we will be able to drink deeply—and satisfyingly—from the only well that offers living water. What followers of Jesus need now, more than anything else, is to know and love—behold and embrace—the great, glorious, sovereign, happy God of the Bible. “This is a unique and precious book that everybody should read more than once.” —J.I. The Beauty Of The Lord written by Jonathan King and has been published by Lexham Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-05-30 with Religion categories.

Why is God's beauty often absent from our theology? Rarely do theologians take up the theme of God's beauty—even more rarely do they consider how God's beauty should shape the task of theology itself. But the psalmist says that the heart of the believer's desire is to behold the beauty of the Lord. In The Beauty of the Lord, Jonathan King restores aesthetics as not merely a valid lens for theological reflection, but an essential one. Jesus, our incarnate Redeemer, displays the Triune God's beauty in his actions and person, from creation to final consummation. How can and should theology better reflect this unveiled beauty? The Beauty of the Lord is a renewal of a truly aesthetic theology and a properly theological aesthetics.
