What is consent? Why does it matter? How does it affect our daily lives? Why is it such a grey area, sometimes? The concept of consent is easy to oversimplify - yes means yes, and no means no. Often, though, it isn't that black and white. Have you ever said 'yes' to something when, really, you wanted to say 'no'? Or have you ever tried to convince someone to do something they don't want to? What is Consent? explores how consent works, and why it matters. It explains how consent plays a part in almost every interaction or relationship we have, and how it affects almost every area of life, from healthcare to the law. The book encourages children to think about what consent means to them, and about the importance of personal boundaries - both knowing your own, and respecting other people's. It talks about how to say no, and what to do if you feel your consent has been violated. The book also includes contributions from people such as David Bartlett, chief executive of the White Ribbon campaign, and Zara Todd, a youth worker and activist, about what consent means to them. Broad and far-reaching, and simultaenously gentle and accessible, this is an important book, vital for giving young readers the necessary understanding to build and develop healthy relationships.

The narrative emphasizes crucial points for readers, such as listening to their own body and mind, establishing what is comfortable for them, and recognizing that their voice should be heard and understood. "No" always means "no," and "yes" is something a person gives of their own free will; it is not taken.

3 Big Questions That Change Every Teenager written by Kara Powell and has been published by Baker Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-08-03 with Religion categories.

Today's teenagers are the most anxious, creative, and diverse generation in history--which can make it hard for us to relate. And while every teenager is a walking bundle of questions, three rise above the rest: - Who am I? - Where do I fit? - What difference can I make? Young people struggle to find satisfying and life-giving answers to these questions on their own. They need caring adults willing to lean in with empathy, practice listening, and gently point them in the direction of better answers: they are enough because of Jesus, they belong with God's people, and they are invited into God's greater story. In this book, which is based on new landmark research from the Fuller Youth Institute and combines in-depth interviews with data from 1,200 diverse teenagers, Kara Powell and Brad M. Griffin offer pastors, youth leaders, mentors, and parents practical and proven conversations and connections that help teenagers answer their three biggest questions and reach their full potential.

Managing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in Public Service Organizations: A Liberatory Justice Approach is a textbook designed to facilitate critical and courageous conversations that recognize our differences, including our privileged and marginalized social identities, and engage readers in the principles and practice of solidarity to transform systems of oppression. Examining dimensions of race, gender, sexual orientation, disabilities, and their intersectionality in the context of diverse, multigenerational organizations, this leading-edge new textbook redefines and reimagines the role of public service in fostering meaningful, authentic, sustainable, and transformative change. While diversity is now a standard topic in books on public personnel and human resource management, authors Rashmi Chordiya and Meghna Sabharwal offer a deeper, nuanced, and reflective understanding of many of the systematic and often covert ways in which marginalized and minoritized groups can face barriers to full and equal participation in decision-making, access to resources, and opportunities for advancement and growth. Taking a holistic, liberatory public service approach, the book explores what it would mean if public service systems were reimagined, and goals aligned and transformed, to serve an “all means all” public. Other unique features of this book include developing a nuanced understanding of trauma of oppression from neurobiological, sociological, and historical perspectives. This book supports the reader in exploring ways of cultivating individual and organizational competencies and capacities for envisioning and implementing trauma-informed, repair and healing-centered approaches to public service that compassionately center the margins. To encourage learner engagement and to connect theory to practice, this book offers several case studies. Each chapter contains a description of big ideas, big questions, and key concepts and teachings offered in that chapter, as well as chapter summaries and deep dive resources. Throughout the book, the authors offer boxed invitations to pause and use reflective prompts to engage readers with the core concepts and key teachings of the book. Managing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in Public Service Organizations is required reading for all current and future public administrators and nonprofit leaders.

Intangible Cultural Heritage In International Law written by Lucas Lixinski and has been published by OUP Oxford this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-06-13 with Law categories.

This book offers a comprehensive analysis of the legal issues around intangible cultural heritage (also known as traditional cultural expressions or folklore). It explores both institutional and substantive responses the law offers to the safeguarding of intangible heritage, relying heavily on critiques internal and external to the law. These external critiques primarily come from the disciplines of anthropology and heritage studies. Intangible cultural heritage is safeguarded on three different levels: international, regional, and national. At the international level, the foremost instrument is the specific UNESCO Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage (2003). At the regional level, initiatives are undertaken both in schemes of political and economic integration, a common thread being that intangible cultural heritage helps promote a common identity for the region, becoming thus a desirable aspect of the integration process. Domestically, responses range from strong constitutional forms of protection to rather weak policy initiatives aimed primarily at attracting foreign aid. Intangible heritage can also be safeguarded via substantive law, and, in this respect, the book looks at the potential and pitfalls of human rights law, intellectual property tools, and contractual approaches. It investigates how the law works and ought to work towards protecting communities, defined as those from where intangible cultural heritage stems, and to whom benefits of its exploitation must return. The book takes the critiques from anthropological and heritage studies into account in order to posit a re-shaped law, offering tools that can be valuable to both scholars and practitioners when understanding how to safeguard intangible heritage.

Identity Reasonableness And Being One Among Others written by Laurance Joseph Splitter and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-01-01 with Education categories.

This book brings the tools and ideas of Anglo-American analytic philosophy to bear on how we think about issues of contemporary significance, in a way that is accessible to a broad audience. While acknowledging empirical findings within the social sciences, it takes on the prescriptive task of imagining a better world, in which being citizens in a democracy means actively engaging with others. We cling to tribal affiliations which incline us to look inward and spurn those whom we deem to be “other.” And we observe the mind-numbing, herd-like impact of social (and other) media on our capacity – and that of our children – to distinguish truth and good sense from falsehood and nonsense. Such problems demand our attention as reasonable persons who both think for themselves, and deliberate in good faith with others with whom they may well disagree. The good news is that while reasonableness cannot be taken for granted, it can – indeed, it must – be nurtured and it must be taught. This book both articulates a conception of reasonableness and exemplifies a clear standard of reasonableness, with respect to the questions it raises and the author's responses to them.
