Have you lost your footing in church? Or has the church lost its footing? Many of us feel unsteady, disoriented, even crushed after an endless string of scandals within the walls of a place meant to offer compassion and safety. Others feel forced to draw back or distance ourselves from the church. All the while, our instincts tell us this is not what Jesus wanted for his people. But what did he intend? After four decades of ministry, Anglican bishop Todd Hunter is no stranger to betrayal and pain in the church. Still, he has hope. He believes more than ever that Jesus is who the world needs and that Jesus has plans for his followers. In What Jesus Intended, Hunter offers a vision for emerging from the rubble of bad religion and rebuilding faith among a community of sincere believers. By unpacking the purposes of Jesus, we can expose twisted, toxic religion for what it is and embrace the true aims of the gospel. Come for a fresh hearing of Jesus—one that offers us the healing and goodness we've always longed for.

What Jesus Meant written by Garry Wills and has been published by Penguin this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2007-02-27 with Religion categories.

“Garry Wills brings his signature brand of erudite, unorthodox thinking to his latest book of revelations. . . . A tour de force and a profound show of faith.” (O, the Oprah Magazine) Look out for a new book from Garry Wills, What The Qur'an Meant, coming fall 2017. In what are billed “culture wars,” people on the political right and the political left cite Jesus as endorsing their views. But in this New York Times-bestselling masterpiece, Garry Wills argues that Jesus subscribed to no political program. He was far more radical than that. In a fresh reading of the gospels, Wills explores the meaning of the “reign of heaven” Jesus not only promised for the future but brought with him into this life. It is only by dodges and evasions that people misrepresent what Jesus plainly had to say against power, the wealthy, and religion itself. But Wills is just as critical of those who would make Jesus a mere ethical teacher, ignoring or playing down his divinity. An illuminating analysis for believers and nonbelievers alike, What Jesus Meant is a brilliant addition to our national conversation on religion.

Today's Church: Is It What Jesus Intended? Takes an honest and open look at the modern church. Comparisons are made between the early teachings of Jesus and a typical church found in the 21st century. The subject of "Mega Church" is highlighted with their vast numbers of people in attendance including their massive budgets. With numbers so large, many of these congregations have come under criticism; however, the book does an adequate job of allowing the readers to arrive at their own conclusions concerning these criticisms. The book covers areas of possible problems or challenges today's church may face, while keeping the teachings of Jesus in mind. Today's Church: Is It What Jesus Intended? is a must read for anyone interested in a basic study of the church.

Everyone wants to be known for something. There is a level of comfort in knowing what defines us, whether good or bad. In NOTORIOUS: THE GOSPEL JESUS INTENDED, Doug Garasic unpacks that God-given desire to be known and gives insight into God's perfect plan - a plan that will stretch us out of our comfort zones, but, if we choose to live it out, will make us notorious. Through hilarious stories and biblical application, NOTORIOUS will take you on a journey through Luke 15 to the heart of the gospel, the good news about why Jesus came to this earth and what he expects from us - and it's not what you might think. When Jesus was faced with an audience of both the worst sinners and the most religious people of that day, what did he choose to tell them? What is he saying to us today? It's time to stop worrying about our reputations and focusing on our own comfort. It's time to get back to the gospel Jesus intended.

Beyond the Intention of Jesus is a sequel to The Intention of Jesus. The Intention concerns Jesus' purpose for both His coming and His church; Beyond the Intention shows how the church has gone beyond what Jesus intended and built up institutions of her own. John wrote, "If anyone does not continue in the teaching of Christ but goes beyond it he cannot have God with him." (II John 9) The front cover of the first book depicts an early morning sunrise in spring with green fields and trees, symbolizing Jesus' coming into our world to carry out His intention. The cover on this book shows an autumn scene in which the harvest is passing, indicating that opportunities pass with seasons. The modern church is in much the same condition Judah was when her time was running out and Jeremiah said, "The harvest is past, the summer has ended, and we are not saved." (Jer. 8:20) And the modern church, like ancient Judah, has missed her opportunity by ignoring Jesus' teaching, thwarting His intention and formulating a theology of her own. The subtitle of this book tells it all. Christians should be well informed about Apostasy, Modernism, Liberation Theology and the Modern Church. They should not rush out to follow those who have run ahead of them to pipe an enchanting tune. This is a serious book that had to be written and ought to be read by all who intend to carry out Jesus' intention-and those who don't. It will help you to see the church as it is and as it was meant to be.

Radical Gospel written by Brian Brandsmeier and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-01-04 with categories.

Radical Gospel dusts off academic theology and brings it to new life in this re-telling of the ministry of Jesus. This book is called Radical Gospel because it is rooted in the imagination, insight, and inspiration of many people - especially a rural Galilean and his ragtag group of disciples. It's also called Radical Gospel because it testifies to the revolutionary implications of the message and ministry of Jesus. There is radically Good News to be shared - and it's just as relevant today as it ever has been! Feminist theologians have challenged the idea of valorizing the suffering and death of Jesus. Too often the idea of "bearing one's cross" in imitation of Jesus has resulted in the spiritualization of suffering and self-negation. For people who are survivors of abuse, the idea of cross-bearing has been bad news. So, this book seeks to re-tell the story of Jesus in a way that challenges and counters the idea of the glorification of suffering. After all, the Good News of Jesus Christ is meant to lead to "abundant life" (John 10:10) and "complete joy" (John 15:11).Feminist theologians have also pointed out that the Gospels were written in a context of patriarchy, which privileged the experiences of men. In fact, men tend to be the heroes and leaders in most Biblical stories, while women tend to play depreciative roles such as seductress, prostitute, and deceiver. Yet despite this, many scholars believe that Jesus himself had a much more egalitarian ministry. This book attempts to explore how the Gospels may have been written if the perspectives and experiences of female disciples were given more of a voice. Historical-critical Bible scholars help modern readers of the New Testament to understand the language of the Gospels (i.e. Greek) and the context out of which they were written (i.e. Roman Orient between 70-150 AD). Since the Gospels are a collection of testimonies that describe what Jesus meant to people, it's important to understand those testimonies from within the culture and context they were written. As an example, the Gospels often describe the "basileia tou theou," which in English translates into "Empire of God." The phrase "Empire of God" is important to reclaim because it encapsulates the radical message that the writers of the Gospels originally intended. For them, the Empire of God was the much needed alternative to the Empire of Rome. Part of their message is that Jesus brought people into a whole new Empire - a new way of life. Postmodern theologians have argued that all theology is written from particular perspectives. Everyone's theology represents personal ideas and "truths." Nobody's theology represents "The Truth" for all times, places, and peoples. God is far too complex and enigmatic for us to understand and explain in our limited language. As Apostle Paul writes, "we see through a glass, dimly" and "know only in part" (I Corinthians 13:12). So all language used to describe God is metaphorical and testimonial - not objective reality. Therefore, this book is written from a passionate perspective that seeks to witness to the Good News of Jesus Christ. Openness and Process theologians remind us that God is continually active and speaking in our daily lives. God didn't just act once upon a time in a land far away. Instead, God's abiding presence is with us throughout our daily lives. In God, we "live, move, and have our being" (Acts 17:28). So, just as God inspired the writing of the Bible, God also inspires our interpretation of those texts. This book is an interpretation and a re-imagining of the Gospels.Part 1: The Beginning (Which is a Continuation) Part 2: The Ministry of Jesus (Which is a Group Effort) Part 3: The Crucifixion of Jesus (Which Doesn't Stop His Ministry)Part 4: The Ending (Which is a New Beginning)
