Worie Dressar is 17 years old when influenza and typhoid ravage her Appalachian Mountain community in 1877, leaving behind a growing number of orphaned children with no way to care for themselves. Worie's mother has been secretly feeding a number of these little ones on Sourwood Mountain. But when she dies suddenly, Worie is left to figure out why and how she was caring for them. Plagued with two good-for-nothing brothers--one greedy and the other a drunkard--Worie fights to save her home and the orphaned children now in her begrudging care. Along the way, she will discover the beauty of unconditional love and the power of forgiveness as she cares for all of Momma's children. Storyteller and popular speaker Cindy K. Sproles pens a tender novel full of sacrifice, heartache, and courage in the face of overwhelming obstacles.

When your life is built around a father’s wrath, how can you trust in the love of Father God? Mercy Roller knows her name is a lie: there has never been any mercy in her young life. Raised by a twisted and abusive father who called himself the Pastor, she was abandoned by the church community that should have stood together to protect her from his evil. Her mother, consumed by her own fear and hate, won’t stand her ground to save Mercy either. The Pastor has robbed Mercy of innocence and love, a husband and her child. Not a single person seems capable of standing up to the Pastor’s unrestrained evil. So Mercy takes matters into her own hands. Her heart was hardened to love long before she took on the role of judge, jury, and executioner of the Pastor. She just didn’t realize the retribution she thought would save her, might turn her into the very thing she hated most. Sent away by her angry and grieving mother, Mercy’s path is unclear until she meets a young preacher headed to counsel a pregnant couple. Sure that her calling is to protect the family, Mercy is drawn into a different life on the other side of the mountain where she slowly discovers true righteousness has nothing evil about it—and that there might be room for her own stained and shattered soul to find shelter. . . and even love. Mercy’s Rain is a remarkable historical novel set in 19th century Appalachia that traces the thorny path from bitterness to forgiveness and reveals the victory and strength that comes from simple faith.

The Navy SEAL ethos of never leaving a shipmate behind is stretched to the limit through two generations of SEALS. Randall Jenkins has never given up on his BUD/s teammate, but due to failing health, he must recruit his son to carry on the search for Edgar Allan Jollar. The search takes place on three continents. Decades have gone by, and D. D. Jenkins takes up the search with very little hope of finding his father’s shipmate. While Jenkins carries on the search for Jollar, Phung Tu, an NVA soldier, has carried on his fight against the Americans until they are driven out of his country. He never has forgotten the American blonde giant who frightened him so much as a boy and created the humiliation of having soiled himself in fear that night in the Mekong. His hatred of all things Western has driven him for all his years fighting for his country. Now middle age has found both Tu and Jollar; their lives have settled into a routine that has left the war behind. But unbeknownst to either man, they lives would continue to enmesh in ways neither man could fathom.

A mesmerizing new thriller from the author of Until You’re Mine Two years after a terrifying spate of teenage suicides, the remote village of Radcote has just begun to heal. Then a young man is killed in a freak motorcycle accident and a suicide note is found among his belongings. When a second boy is found dead shortly thereafter, the nightmare of repeat suicides once again threatens the community. Desperate for a vacation, Detective Inspector Lorraine Fisher has just come to Radcote for a stay with her sister, Jo, but the atmosphere of the country house is unusually tense. Freddie, Jo's son, seems troubled and uncommunicative, and Jo is struggling to reach out to him. Meanwhile, Lorraine becomes determined to discover the truth behind these deaths. Are they suicides, or is there something more sinister at work? Finding answers might help Freddie, but they'll also lead to a shocking truth: whatever it is--or whoever it is--that's killing these young people is far more disturbing than she ever could have imagined, and unraveling the secret is just as dangerous as the secret itself. Wicked, intense, and utterly compulsive, What You Left Behind confirms Samantha Hayes as a top thriller writer.

While this book is being published as fiction, the very essence of the story is a true one. The gentleman this book is actually about felt that his sins were far too horrible to be forgiven. While the names and certain events have been altered in order to avoid sharing any inaccurate information, therefore making it fiction, he did, in fact, grow up in a small rural community in the south. The innocence of that idyllic childhood was shattered due to the draft during the Vietnam War. Then he struggled to rebuild his life from that point forward. However, he found that there was no returning to the things he left behind. The innocence of youth was forever lost. While he survived physically, although narrowly, any semblance of normal life was gone. From that point forward, he dealt with overwhelming guilt. Guilt for going and leaving loved ones behind, some he would never see again. Guilt for coming home and leaving his men behind, many whom would never make it home. Guilt for things he had to do during the terror that was an integral part of war. He tried to seek relief by rebuilding and helping as much as he could. He was, however, overwhelmed with the fear that nothing would ever be good enough to bring about forgiveness for his seemingly unthinkable sins. Like many who have been through such traumas, he suffered silently, and this took its toll. He was fortunate enough to have had many caring people who tried to help through the years. In the end, he was blessed to finally find the answer through one seemingly simple question that allowed him to find the peace he so desperately sought. His dying wish was that his story might help others.
