This is a critical moment in the life of China’s reforming churches and the Presbyterian and Reformed mission to China. This book provides both a historical look at Presbyterianism in China and an assessment of the current state of affairs, orienting readers to church development needs and the basic outlines of Reformed Christianity in China today. While laying out the challenges and opportunities facing the church, the authors argue that assisting this reformation in China should be a central objective of the Presbyterian and Reformed mission to China in this generation. Martin Pauw was born in 1940 at Madzimoyo Mission, Eastern Zambia, where both his grandparents and parents had served as missionaries. After completing his theological studies at the University of Stellenbosch, he was ordained in Malawi in the Church of Central Africa Presbyterian (CCAP) in 1965. Like his great grandfather, grandfather and father, he became a “missionary” – the fourth generation! He served as youth pastor and lecturer at the CCAP Theological College at Nkhoma until 1973. From 1975 he lectured at Justo Mwale Theological College of the Reformed Church in Zambia in Lusaka and from 1983 to 2001 he was lecturer and eventually professor in Missiology in the Faculty of Theology at the University of Stellenbosch (where he also had previously completed his doctoral studies with a thesis on the history of the CCAP Nkhoma Synod). Over the years Prof Pauw acted as study leader to a large number of under- and post graduate students, authored a considerable number of publications and served in various leadership positions in the church. After retiring as lecturer, he served the Western Cape Synod of the Dutch Reformed Church for a further six years as Secretary for Witness and focussed on building partnerships between the DRC and sister churches in various countries in Africa. His vast experience in, knowledge of and passion for humbly serving the churches in Southern and Central Africa, is remarkable.

The History of Christian Missions in Guangxi, China describes the fascinating history of Catholic and Protestant missions in bandit-infested Guangxi from the seventeenth century to the present. Included is an overview of Guangxi's historical context and its development throughout the twentieth century. Particular attention is given to the missionaries through abundant quotations and several short biographies. Other chapters include: -an examination of the relationships between mission societies and the missionaries that served in Guangxi -a detailed history of outreach to Guangxi's minorities, including the Zhuang, Yao, Dong, and Miao -an analysis of the missionary methods and ministries of compassion -a breakdown of the costs and challenges faced by the missionaries, including martyrdom and death -an evaluation of the receptivity levels and results in Guangxi over time The book ends with an appendix of missionary quotations on life in Guangxi, to which contemporary missionaries in South China could easily relate. Although this is a regional study, readers will gain a much clearer picture of nineteenth- and twentieth-century missions and be spurred on to sacrificially make Christ known in the least reached parts of the world.

The Spontaneous Expansion Of The Church written by Roland Allen and has been published by Lutterworth Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2006-08-24 with Religion categories.

"If it were once believed that the freedom of churches should be restricted to bring greater control to missions, Roland Allen sets out to overturn this conception. Warning against the danger of imposing greater limits on churches, the Author advocates that all members of the church, 'natives' and foreigners alike, must take an active role in its establishment and daily life. The study divides itself into nine chapters; the first, introducing Allen's standpoint, the second as an opening into thenature and character of Spontaneous Expression. The third chapter deals with modern attempts by 'natives' towards the liberty of their churches. The fear of the doctrine becoming weakened by natives taking it into their own hands is addressed by chapter four and this fear is widened into the realm of the Christian standard of morals in chapter five. Civilisation and enlightenment form the central themes of the sixth chapter. Chapters seven and eight tackle the distinction between the Church andmissionary societies. It is in the final chapter that the future of Spontaneous Expansion is investigated and Allen puts forward his ideas which, as he rightly predicted, were broadly accepted fifty years and longer still after their original publication."
