He received his medical training at St. Thomas' Hospital Medical School and became a lecturer in pathology at the University of London, in England. Rectal cancer is the medical term for cancer of the rectum, while colon cancer is the term used to refer to cancer of the colon. The term "colorectal cancer" refers to cancers of the colon, gastrointestinal system, or rectal lymph nodes together. Adenomatous polyps, which are a type of precancerous development, are the precursors to the majority of colorectal malignancies.
