Her father searches the neighborhoods of West Los Angeles, looking into each car parked on the quiet street. He searches frantically from one car to the next until finally he comes upon the one where she's sleeping. He pounds on the window until she looks up, and in her fear acknowledges him, and then reluctantly opens the door. He drags her from the car and tells her that he has to take her to the police because now she's a runaway; and she can no longer go home. She doesn't know who to be more afraid of, him or the police. She has never been in this position before and she's frightened. Once she had made the decision to run, there was no turning back. It wouldn't even occur to her to tell the police why she's running because this enigma that is her life doesn't see any justification for her actions. She just goes along with the ritual of always being in trouble with her father, and accepts the impending punishment. While she sits quietly on a hardwood chair, an officer with one knee resting on the looks up at her. He asks, "Is there a reason why this girl is running away from home?" At this question, the man sways back and forth until he starts to crumple to the floor. They think the man's faint is because of what she's put him through, but deep down she knows the truth. But for now, she only hangs her head at the shame she feels for what she has done, and the self loathing she has felt for so many years of her short life. If life gives you lemons, sometimes you just have to make lemonade. This is the true story of a little girl sexually abused by her father, and how she made her way home.

You must love a child from the time the sperm unites with the egg and tell yourself, aEURoeI would make up my mind that I would love the child all my life regardless of physical characteristics, mental abilities, and personality or anything the child might say or do.aEUR Reading this book should convince you that if we are to raise children to be successful, we must first teach them what success is. I believe there is no true success without complete commitment to and complete faith in God. We should start teaching our children the right way to go from the day they are born. In fact, we must start long before they are born so that both the parents and the child will be prepared to learn the way to live from the beginning. If we wait until the child is a teenager to teach them these things, it may be too late. Also, with the love of Christ in our hearts, we must set the right examples of responsibility, honesty, integrity, work ethics, and the like, especially because the child is born with the instinct to be like the parents. We must teach our children to love America. Not just respect it but to really love and appreciate our great country as well. Our children should be loved the same whether they have an IQ of l80 or they struggle to make passing grades. We must love them just the same if they have physical or mental impairments. We must warn them of the evils of alcohol, drugs, sex outside of marriage, greed, selfishness, and all the other sins, which keep them from having a successful life.

"Funny is Funny" -- Joan Rivers But how do you make it in the world of comedy if you are a woman? With Stand Up and Sock It to Them Sister, writer, actress and performer Gwenno Dafydd looks at the genesis of female comedy from the time of music hall and supper clubs in Victorian London through to the excitement and challenge of the international world of stand-up from Edinburgh to Cape Town to Mumbai to New York and Los Angeles before finally returning to the comedy clubs of London. Stand Up and Sock It to Them Sister tells us in the words of the performers themselves what they had to face and overcome, in an often male-dominated and aggressively competitive world, to make it to the top in comedy. And why and how they do it. Stand Up and Sock It to Them Sister seeks to explain why the women chose comedy and what they have had to sacrifice to make it. It is an inspiring story of empowerment with a resonance for women everywhere trying to create, work and achieve in the modern world. With insightful interviews from over seventy performers and a concise and entertaining commentary this book offers a practical guide and invaluable advice on the practice and challenges of being a stand-up comedian through a unique section of Tips for the Top. Stand up and Sock it To Them Sister is the result of twenty years of extensive research with interviews with over seventy five comics working world-wide from the pioneering Joan Rivers, Jo Brand, Jenny Eclair, Helen Lederer, to newcomers such as Nina Conti, Shazia Mirzah, and Amy Schumer.
