A call center company CEO shares how businesses of all sizes can repeat his success by focusing on employee loyalty—and not outsourcing. How many small businesses have a full-time coworker whose official title is “Queen of Fun and Laughter?” How many have a CEO and COO who dress in matador outfits for a company holiday video version of Dancing with the Stars? Beryl is a “Top Small Workplace” because of one thing—its focus on people. Visitors report they feel the “vibe” when they walk in the door. As a call center company, a business normally known for high turnover, low morale, and a boiler room environment, Beryl created a special culture resulting in low attrition, high customer loyalty, and profits reinvested in coworkers. What Beryl does behind the scenes to take care of the needs of its internal family sets it apart. It operates with a real spirit of camaraderie; the loyalty of team members at every level; a leadership team that operates with a true servant mindset; and a CEO, Paul Spiegelman, who believes that everyone deserves a chance to feel important. He rewards people frequently, respects their efforts and opinions, and informs them of everything that impacts them. “Paul drills right to the core of the solution…focusing on people, building a culture of customer satisfaction from the top down, and empowering employees to do the right thing. What really drives business is the human touch, and Paul has the touch.” —James D. Power IV, Executive Vice President, J. D. A person endowed with a sense of humor has an inner 'richness' for it often brings incidental smiles on his face. No potion, no beauty aid, no pencils and brushes can embellish a human face as the pleasant mark of an oft- worn smile does. A testy, tetchy, irascible or cantankerous person gets on his face easily discernible, disagreeable telltale clues that give him away even to his casual interlocutor. A person can smile, laugh, cut jokes or find humor only if his mind is somewhat liberated, he is not overly bogged down with every-day-cares, neither is he too self-conscious to be always self-involved. To find humor or even to fully appreciate it, it is imperative to keep some channel of mind 'open' to be ready to catch the subtle strands of others and one's own thoughts and actions. Similar is the case with Harmohan Chhibber who discovers humor where there appears none to a casual eye. Laugh and the world laughs with you. Smile and the world smiles. A smiling face indicates an affinity, a bond, a link and a companionship of the voyage of life on this floating planet. A smiling face is cynosure of all eyes. Friends in office, social circle or wherever they are cluster him or her. One who wears a smile on his face spreads sunshine and reflects a positive attitude. Harmohan Chhibber rightly exhorts his readers; ''you are not dressed for the day unless you wear a smile''. Even a casual perusal of an anecdotal narrative contained in 'incidental smiles' will convince a reader that Harmohan Chhibber can 'smell' or perceive humor instinctively. So hitch you wagon to 'Incidental Smiles' and enjoy its inherent bliss. Smile is an apparel of jovial heart and it can be therapeutic in its effect, it is also spiritual in content, it is mysterious Midas touch, an alchemy that turns every metal into gold. Smile is a 'mantra' for success and bliss. It ensures facial uplift and cheerfulness. Smile is antidote to melancholy. They say 'act young and you feel young' so wear a smile on your face and be happy. A smile can bridge the abyss between tantalizing bless and abject dejection, between friendliness and schizophrenic one-up-man ship. A beauty lies in the eye of the beholder, so dose humor lie in the mind of the humorist. Mark Twain would find humor where none exists for others. When a high dignitary-the next speaker sitting beside him commented rather presumptuously that it appeared he would be talking over the heads of the audience. Twain took the wind out of the dignitary by saying 'feel easy, they don't listen'. in case when in an 'Old boys 'meet in an institution, a dignitary in visitors' book wrote, "I am what I am due to the institution". The person following him scribbled below it, "Why blame the institution?" When a legal luminary was a student, his teacher not being satisfied with his answer in the law class at Mumbai asked him where he had his schooling. On being told that it was at Shimla, the teacher said, "Why go so far to learn so little." It is apparent that in all the above incidents there initially appears to no point of humor but a person endowed with a sense of humor will discover it to the pleasant surprise of his company. Similar is the case with Harmohan Chhibber who discovers humor where there appears none to a causal eye. Prof. P. L. Bhola

Young Soeharto written by David Jenkins and has been published by ISEAS-Yusof Ishak Institute this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-05-06 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

When a reluctant President Sukarno gave Lt Gen Soeharto full executive authority in March 1966, Indonesia was a deeply divided nation, fractured along ideological, class, religious and ethnic lines. Soeharto took a country in chaos, the largest in Southeast Asia, and transformed it into one of the “Asian miracle” economies—only to leave it back on the brink of ruin when he was forced from office thirty-two years later. Drawing on his astonishing range of interviews with leading Indonesian generals, former Imperial Japanese Army officers and men who served in the Dutch colonial army, as well as years of patient research in Dutch, Japanese, British, Indonesian and US archives, David Jenkins brings vividly to life the story of how a socially reticent but exceptionally determined young man from rural Java began his rise to power—an ascent which would be capped by thirty years (1968–98) as President of Indonesia, the fourth most populous nation on earth. Soeharto was one of Asia’s most brutal, most durable, most avaricious and most successful dictators. In the course of examining those aspects of his character, this book provides an accessible, highly readable introduction to the complex, but dramatic and utterly absorbing, social, political, religious, economic and military factors that have shaped, and which continue to shape, Indonesia.

“A charming, thoughtful book, one that makes a powerful case for smiles as ‘social acts with consequences.’ ”—Boston Sunday Globe When someone smiles, the effects are often positive: a glum mood lifts; an apology is accepted; a deal is struck; a flirtation begins. But change the circumstances or the cast of a smile, and the terms shift: a rival grins to get under your skin; a bully’s smirk unsettles his mark. Marianne LaFrance, called the world’s expert on smiles, investigates the familiar grin and finds that it is not quite as simple as it first appears. LaFrance shows how the smile says much more than we realize—or care to admit: not just cheerful expressions, smiles are social acts with serious consequences. Drawing on her research conducted at Yale University and Boston College as well as the latest studies in psychology, medicine, anthropology, biology, and computer science, LaFrance explores the compelling science behind the smile. Who shows more fake smiles, popular kids or unpopular kids? Is it good or bad when a bereaved person smiles? These are some of the questions answered in this groundbreaking and insightful work. To read it is to learn just how much the smile influences our lives and our relationships.
