Who Was Responsible For The Troubles written by Liam Kennedy and has been published by McGill-Queen's Press - MQUP this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-09-23 with Political Science categories.

The Troubles claimed the lives of almost four thousand people in Northern Ireland, most of them civilians; forty-five thousand were injured in bombings and shootings. Relative to population size this was the most intense conflict experienced in Western Europe since the end of the Second World War. The central question posed in this book is fundamental, yet it is one that has rarely been asked: Who was primarily responsible for the prosecution of the Troubles and their attendant toll of the dead, the injured, and the emotionally traumatized? Liam Kennedy, who lived in Belfast throughout most of the conflict, was long afraid to raise the question and its implications. After years of reflection and research on the matter he has brought together elements of history, politics, sociology, and social psychology to identify the collective actors who drove the conflict onwards for more than three decades, from the days of the civil rights movement in the late 1960s to the signing of the Good Friday Agreement in 1998. The Troubles in Northern Ireland are a world-class problem in miniature. The combustible mix of national, ethnic, and sectarian passions that went into the making of the conflict has its parallels today in other parts of the world. Who Was Responsible for the Troubles? is an original and controversial work that captures the terror and the pain but also the hope of life and the pursuit of happiness in a deeply divided society.

Excerpt from Who Was Responsible for the War? The Verdict of History "I honour and respect England, declared Italy's master-statesman, Cavour, in 1809, I hold her in veneration, because I look upon her as the rock upon which liberty found, and should occasion require, will again find, an invulnerable stronghold. I have always favoured all steps possible towards an alliance with England; I have done this both as a writer and as minister and have followed this policy so earnestly as to have often incurred the reproach of being excessively Anglophile." "In the great battle which is being fought in all parts of the world between good and evil, between justice and oppression, between equality and privilege, between truth and falsehood, your place has already been assigned," wrote the great Italian apostle of nationality and political liberty, Mazzini, in his ardent appeal to the American people in 1865. Responsible Artificial Intelligence written by Virginia Dignum and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-11-04 with Computers categories.

In this book, the author examines the ethical implications of Artificial Intelligence systems as they integrate and replace traditional social structures in new sociocognitive-technological environments. She discusses issues related to the integrity of researchers, technologists, and manufacturers as they design, construct, use, and manage artificially intelligent systems; formalisms for reasoning about moral decisions as part of the behavior of artificial autonomous systems such as agents and robots; and design methodologies for social agents based on societal, moral, and legal values. Throughout the book the author discusses related work, conscious of both classical, philosophical treatments of ethical issues and the implications in modern, algorithmic systems, and she combines regular references and footnotes with suggestions for further reading. This short overview is suitable for undergraduate students, in both technical and non-technical courses, and for interested and concerned researchers, practitioners, and citizens.
