Highly Linear Integrated Wideband Amplifiers: Design and Analysis Techniques for Frequencies from Audio to RF deals with the complicated issues involved in the design of high-linearity integrated wideband amplifiers for different operating frequencies. The book demonstrates these principles using a number of high-performance designs. New topologies for high linearity are presented, as well as a novel method for estimating the intermodulation distortion of a wideband signal. One of the most exciting results presented is an enhanced feedback configuration called feedback boosting that is capable of very low distortion. Also important is a statistical method for relating the intermodulation distortion of a wideband signal to the total harmonic distortion (THD) of a single tone. The THD, as opposed to the intermodulation distortion of the wideband signal, is easy to measure and use as a design parameter. Three different applications where high linearity is needed are identified, namely audio power amplifiers, wideband IF amplifiers and RF power amplifiers. For these applications high-performance integrated amplifier designs using novel topologies are presented together with measurement results. The audio amplifiers are built in CMOS and are capable of driving 8Omega loudspeaker loads directly without using any external components. One of the designs can operate on a supply voltage down to 1.5V. Both bipolar and CMOS wideband IF amplifiers are built; they are fully differential and have linearity from DC to 20 MHz. Finally, an RF power amplifier is built in CMOS, without using inductors, in order to investigate what performance can be achieved without them. Highly Linear Integrated Wideband Amplifiers: Design and Analysis Techniques for Frequencies from Audio to RF is an excellent reference for researchers and designers of integrated amplifiers, and may be used as a text for advanced courses on the topic.

A new method for wideband amplifier design has been developed. The significant feature of this method is the simultaneous determination of the optimized pole locations of the input and output side matching equalizer functions based on discrete frequency data. This produces upgraded performance of wideband amplifiers.

Low Noise Amplifiers (LNAs) are commonly used to amplify signals that are too weak for direct processing for example in radio or cable receivers. Traditionally, low noise amplifiers are implemented via tuned amplifiers, exploiting inductors and capacitors in resonating LC-circuits. This can render very low noise but only in a relatively narrow frequency band close to resonance. There is a clear trend to use more bandwidth for communication, both via cables (e.g. cable TV, internet) and wireless links (e.g. satellite links and Ultra Wideband Band). Hence wideband low-noise amplifier techniques are very much needed. Wideband Low Noise Amplifiers Exploiting Thermal Noise Cancellation explores techniques to realize wideband amplifiers, capable of impedance matching and still achieving a low noise figure well below 3dB. This can be achieved with a new noise cancelling technique as described in this book. By using this technique, the thermal noise of the input transistor of the LNA can be cancelled while the wanted signal is amplified! The book gives a detailed analysis of this technique and presents several new amplifier circuits. This book is directly relevant for IC designers and researchers working on integrated transceivers. Although the focus is on CMOS circuits, the techniques can just as well be applied to other IC technologies, e.g. bipolar and GaAs, and even in discrete component technologies.

This work covers two bases, both performance optimization strategies and a complete introduction to mathematical procedures required for a successful circuit design. It starts from the basics of mathematical procedures and circuit analysis before moving on to the more advanced topics of system optimization and synthesis, along with the complete mathematical apparatus required. The authors have been at pains to make the material accessible by limiting the mathematics to the necessary minimum.

An Integral Design Technique For Wideband Multistage Transistor Amplifiers written by Larry Scott and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1961 with Amplifiers (Electronics). categories.

A philosophy for designing wideband multistage transistor amplifiers is presented. The amplifier was visualized as an integral unit, the interstage networks constituting the elements of the amplifier unit. By designing the amplifier as a unit and adjusting the over-all response (gain and bandwidth) with the interstage time constants, an increase in gain-bandwidth product was realized over the iteratively designed amplifiers. The resulting increase in gainbandwidth product resulted from absence of the bandwidth shrinkage factor for multistage amplifiers. Formulas were derived for both a two- and three- transistor integrally designed wideband amplifier, in which shunt peaking networks were used for coupling. Experimental amplifiers were con structcd following these formulas, and the observed performance agreed quite well with the calculations. (auth).
