Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2012 im Fachbereich Politik - Sonstige Themen, Note: 1,3, Johannes Gutenberg-Universität Mainz (Institut für Politikwissenschaft), Veranstaltung: Wirtschaft und Gesellschaft, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Das Konzept des Sozialkapitals hat in den vergangenen Jahrzehnten eine hohe Popularität in der politikwissenschaftlichen, soziologischen und wirtschaftswissenschaftlichen Forschungsdiskussion erlangt. Dabei wird Sozialkapital als entscheidendes Kriterium für die Entwicklung von Gemeinschaften beschrieben. Bedeutende internationale Organisationen, wie die Weltbank oder die OECD, haben sich des Paradigmas des Sozialkapitals angenommen. Hinter vielfach auftauchenden Schlagwörtern wie „Bürgergesellschaft“ und „politische Kultur“ steckt auch in gewissem Sinne der Sozialkapital-Ansatz. Der Begriff des Sozialkapitals findet sich in vielgestaltigen theoretischen Diskussionsansätzen und empirischen Arbeiten und ist Thema vieler wissenschaftlicher Publikationen. Im Zusammenhang mit den medial vielfach diskutierten Herausforderungen, denen sich der moderne Staat gegenüber sieht, wie der rückläufigen politischen Partizipation und dem befürchteten Bedeutungsverlust gesellschaftlich-moralischer Normen und Werte, wird Sozialkapital häufig als eine erklärende Variable der Phänomene beschrieben und zählt zu den innovativsten Konzepten der aktuellen Forschungsdiskussion in den Sozialwissenschaften. Die Politikwissenschaft interessiert sich besonders aufgrund zweier Annahmen für das Sozialkapital-Konzept, zum einen weil ein entscheidender Einfluss von Sozialkapital auf das Funktionieren von Demokratien angenommen wird und zum anderen weil die Meinung vorherrscht, Sozialkapital habe starke Auswirkungen auf die ökonomische Leistungsfähigkeit eines Staates. Mit diesem zweiten Aspekt beschäftigt sich die vorliegende Arbeit.
