Um diese Frage essayistisch zu beantworten, werden zunächst Digitalisierungsmöglichkeiten in den Kontext der demokratischen Praxis gestellt und hierbei unterschiedliche Herangehensweisen europäischer Staaten angeführt. Daraufhin wird sich konkret mit dem Fallbeispiel der deutschen Digitalpolitik auseinandergesetzt - was hat sich bis 2021 getan und wie erfolgreich waren die angestoßenen Maßnahmen? Abschließend folgt ein reflektierter Blick in die Zukunft. Hierbei werden insbesondere in Bezug auf KI Einsatzmöglichkeiten aufgezeigt und mögliche Grenzen bedacht. Anmerkung: Ein weiterer Rundumschlag könnte in Bezug auf die Blockchain-Technologie erfolgen, diese wurde jedoch im Rahmen dieses Essays (noch) nicht behandelt, da die Argumentationsstränge in Bezug auf explizit demokratische Einsatzmöglichkeiten kongruent blieben, aber ein höheres technisches Grundverständnis erforderlich machen würden. Zudem wird das Potenzial dieser Technologie 2021 noch nicht in der diskursiven politischen Praxis wahrgenommen.
