(Alternative Cover). When a journey you never chose to take changes everything you thought you knew...Daniel, (DJ for short), is a bright, thoughtful and trusting young boy who is left to his own devices back in his cold home in the North, dreaming of something better - a place where he truly belongs. Unexpectedly shipped off to a foreign land to meet his long-lost explorer-uncle, who he never knew existed, DJ wakes to find himself completely alone in a hostile landscape, barely alive, and with no sign of this supposed uncle. However, unbeknownst to the boy, his arrival had been witnessed by a wild desert-inhabitant, perhaps DJ's one and only hope of survival. Lost and alone in the expanse of this vast, remote and estranged desert, how will DJ survive? Will he ever find this mysterious uncle? And, in the loneliest place on Earth, will he ever find his true home? Perhaps this very desert can offer DJ the one thing he has never known in his barren life back in the cold North: to feel wanted. The debut novel from Cass Clark. Also available on Kindle. Additionally, this novel is available with alternative front cover for children as 6 x 9 paperback and on Kindle.

Wild Dog Dreaming written by Deborah Bird Rose and has been published by University of Virginia Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-03-04 with Literary Criticism categories.

We are living in the midst of the Earth's sixth great extinction event, the first one caused by a single species: our own. In Wild Dog Dreaming, Deborah Bird Rose explores what constitutes an ethical relationship with nonhuman others in this era of loss. She asks, Who are we, as a species? How do we fit into the Earth's systems? Amidst so much change, how do we find our way into new stories to guide us? Rose explores these questions in the form of a dialogue between science and the humanities. Drawing on her conversations with Aboriginal people, for whom questions of extinction are up-close and very personal, Rose develops a mode of exposition that is dialogical, philosophical, and open-ended. An inspiration for Rose--and a touchstone throughout her book--is the endangered dingo of Australia. The dingo is not the first animal to face extinction, but its story is particularly disturbing because the threat to its future is being actively engineered by humans. The brazenness with which the dingo is being wiped out sheds valuable, and chilling, light on the likely fate of countless other animal and plant species. "People save what they love," observed Michael Soul , the great conservation biologist. We must ask whether we, as humans, are capable of loving--and therefore capable of caring for--the animals and plants that are disappearing in a cascade of extinctions. Wild Dog Dreaming engages this question, and the result is a bold account of the entangled ethics of love, contingency, and desire.

"Each of us is born with gifts that are uniquely ours. Unfortunately, these special qualities are buried deep within us, undiscovered because we have allowed others to define who we are." Author Desert Dreams is an inspirational story of Nathan Noland (24) who finds himself in a lucid dream backpacking through the canyon country of Utah. Join Chris on his transformational journey. Meet Chief Po'pay, a benevolent shape-shifting shaman who challenges Nathan to question the reality of his thoughts about himself. Discover the power of belief in the parable of the Broken Wing Bird. Experience the beauty and mystery of the desert landscape: shifting colors of sunsets; the gurgle of canyon streams; explore cliff dwellings and phantom rock drawings left behind by Stone Age people. Share his thoughts about life, love, and purpose, as he broods beneath star clustered skies, stormy nights and sun-washed meadows. What are your special gifts, and how do you discover them? Chief Po'pay says you must find a path. And there are many paths to choose from. But there is only one true path. Are you ready for the journey?

In the heart of Australia, on the cracked red earth, among wild vegetation, weathered bush, and dried-up creeks, hundreds of invisible pathways exist that become entangled on the earth's surface, underground, and in the sky, clouds, and wind. The Aboriginal people call them Jukurrpa: “the Dreamings.” This web is the Warlpiri land. Practicing the Dreaming, by ritual art, is for the Warlpiri a way to reactivate their ancestral traditions to connect with the cosmos and respond to current social and political issues. In 1979, anthropologist Barbara Glowczewski embarked on a journey to study the Warlpiri in the Australian outback. Struggling at once to maintain their traditions and cultural heritage as well as adapting to the continuing secularization and techno-progress of their European Australian counterparts, she takes us into the landscape, artistic rituals, and turmoil of the Warlpiri over three decades. Becoming accepted among Aboriginal families as a translator, and at the same time a negotiator of two vastly different visions of the earth, contemporary Western culture and the ancient indigenous dreaming culture, Glowczewski created a singular document of ethnological fieldwork and of self-transformation and discovery.
