This collection brings together seventy-five poems by three renowned contemporary Tamil poets, whose works stand at the forefront of modern Tamil poetry. All three poets have experienced the pain and dislocation of recent Sri Lankan violence, the rupture of traditional life and the anguish of mass exile, all of which constantly inform their works. Each has created from these experiences a distinct and modern poetics, drawing from the same rich two-thousand-year-old culture.

Are the darkest among us born this way? Or did something make them that way? If something made them that way, what could it have been? Wilting souls’ saga will show you the metamorphosis of people as they become beings of pure darkness. “Wanting love, happiness, and peace of mind. I think you’re asking for too much,” said the Universe to anyone who ever wanted to keep their soul. Lord General Bandares is the most powerful Ground Assault General in the Adrasteia Empire, known for being vengeful and utterly ruthless. For months and even cycles on end he's been having premonitions that his only son Nairn would suffer a fate far worse than death. Unable to peg this feeling on any foreseeable event, he chose to watch and wait for something more tangible to act on than a bad dream. When the Emperor and Empress of Adrasteia order him not to leave Adrasteia binary system and to procreate with seven powerful new troops arriving from the Heka moon-worlds, he knew right away his premonitions were true, and that his son’s fate was somehow already sealed. From what he could surmise, they were trying to prevent him from doing anything to intercede, trapping him with Imperial rules that mandate a father’s duty to mother and child. A month later, six of the seven women who'd come to him with the same order to have his children were now with child. During this time, he'd begun to take a liking to one of the woman named Takumbo. With his dreams becoming more gruesome and vivid as the days passed, yet identifying no clear enemy that could harm his son, he decided to ask the Emperor and Empress what they were hiding. Receiving a twisted answer about fates sometime being intertwined and sometimes not, he could stand idle no more and decides to leave Adrasteia binary system in search of a way to protect his son. But he doesn't want to leave without passing down an important message to his unborn children. So as his sphere of nano material rises into the void, he leaves his memories with Takumbo...And this is when the story of Wilting Souls truly begins.

The three-decade-long conflict tore apart the Tamils’ world in Sri Lanka. This anthology, framed by war, brings together poems, stories and a memoir by Tamil writers living there and in the diaspora. Wide-ranging and from recent decades, till the war’s ending, these pieces have been translated with great skill for the first time into English. Stark, and sometimes lyrical, distilling memory, history, mythology and classical literary tropes, they powerfully echo the Tamils’ sorrows and deep fears, their longings and hopes for tomorrow. Laments about youths felled by gunfire, their forced disappearances, the loss of family and homes, desecration of shrines, repeated displacements, becoming international refugees alternate with remembrance of the beauteous forests and sea, of celebrations of Tamil language and culture, and the compassion of women providing people succour. Accompanied by an introduction to set the context, this rich and moving volume reveals the spirit of a wounded island and brings its voices to a new audience.

Everyday Occupations written by Kamala Visweswaran and has been published by University of Pennsylvania Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-03-16 with Political Science categories.

In the twenty-first century, political conflict and militarization have come to constitute a global social condition rather than a political exception. Military occupation increasingly informs the politics of both democracies and dictatorships, capitalist and formerly socialist regimes, raising questions about its relationship to sovereignty and the nation-state form. Israel and India are two of the world's most powerful postwar democracies yet have long-standing military occupations. Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Turkey have passed through periods of military dictatorship, but democracy has yielded little for their ethnic minorities who have been incorporated into the electoral process. Sri Lanka and Bangladesh (like India, Pakistan, and Turkey) have felt the imprint of socialism; declarations of peace after long periods of conflict in these countries have not improved the conditions of their minority or indigenous peoples but rather have resulted in "violent peace" and remilitarization. Indeed, the existence of standing troops and ongoing state violence against peoples struggling for self-determination in these regions suggests the expanding and everyday nature of military occupation. Such everydayness raises larger issues about the dominant place of the military in society and the social values surrounding militarism. Everyday Occupations examines militarization from the standpoints of both occupier and occupied. With attention to gender, poetics, satire, and popular culture, contributors who have lived and worked in occupied areas in the Middle East and South Asia explore what kinds of society are foreclosed or made possible by militarism. The outcome is a powerful contribution to the ethnography of political violence. Contributors: Nosheen Ali, Kabita Chakma, Richard Falk, Sandya Hewamanne, Mohamad Junaid, Rhoda Kanaaneh, Hisyar Ozsoy, Cheran Rudhramoorthy, Serap Ruken Sengul, Kamala Visweswaran.

It All Began With Wilt written by Cecil Mosenson and has been published by Page Publishing Inc this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-07-10 with Sports & Recreation categories.

Having coached one of the best basketball players to have ever played the game is a great accomplishment, but Cecil Mosenson has a bigger story to tell. In It All Began with Wilt the reader gets to see the power of a coach, the power of a man, and the power of a friend. Armed with the ability to coach and teach, Cecil worked his way through highly acclaimed and successful coaching positions, awards on every level, administrative opportunities, and, ultimately, into the lives of countless teenagers. His kids still thank him for the impact that he had—in sports and life. His inspiration now extends past the court into a wonderfully wrought memoir. Cecil Mosenson shares his life of coaching—starting with Wilt. “I was talking to the other coach and the officials when I happened to glance at Wilt. He had adorned himself with a golf hat, a shimmering white silk scarf and dark sun glasses, I called him over and told him very directly...” (Adam) “Even through the anguish that my father caused, I never wanted it to end. I loved every minute of it, even with the disappointments, the embarrassments, the endless valleys, and that one peak that will live with me forever.” “As if by magic, all the fans stopped in their tracks, turned around, and started back into the stands. It looked to me as if he were holding the Ten Commandments in one hand and the other hand was pointing upwards into the heavens. He was the Charlton Heston of the basketball world.” “This is about the people Mosenson touched, and those who touched him. It began with Wilt, but it hardly ended there.” ―Phil Jasner, Philadelphia Daily News NBA Sports Writer

Wilt In Nowhere written by Tom Sharpe and has been published by Random House this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-05-26 with Fiction categories.

When his endlessly capricious wife Eva receives plane tickets for the family to visit Auntie Joan and Uncle Wally in Atlanta, Wilt knows only one thing - that nothing could entice him to fly three thousand miles over the water, and especially not two rotund Americans with more money than sense. What better way to escape and find equilibrium then to embark on a walking tour? Just Wilt, the countryside, and an ill-judged bottle of whiskey... Meanwhile, Eva finds her plans to inherit Joan and Wally's fortune slipping away faster than her sanity, thanks to a combination of sinister teenage quadruplets with foul mouths, and her unexpected role as lead suspect in a drug-trafficking plot. Outrageous, darkly comic, and packed with calamity on top of calamity, Tom Sharpe's latest episode of Wilt's misadventures is a razor-sharp farce that will delight fans both old and new.
