Since the early eighties IFIP/Sec has been an important rendezvous for Information Technology researchers and specialists involved in all aspects of IT security. The explosive growth of the Web is now faced with the formidable challenge of providing trusted information. IFIP/Sec’01 is the first of this decade (and century) and it will be devoted to “Trusted Information - the New Decade Challenge” This proceedings are divided in eleven parts related to the conference program. Vorwort Der Studienführer richtet sich in erster Linie an Abiturientinnen und Abiturienten, Studierende und andere Interessenten, die sich über das Ausbildungsangebot in Wirt schaftsinformatik informieren wollen. Er wendet sich aber auch an die potenziellen Arbeitgeber der Wirtschaftsinformatik-Absolventinnen und -Absolventen, insbesonde re an die Personalleitung von Anwenderbetrieben, Software-und Systemhäusern so wie Beratungsunternehmen. Ihnen gibt der Studienführer die Möglichkeit, sich einen Überblick über die Ausbildungsziele und -inhalte zu verschaffen. Ergänzend sind in wenigen Stichworten die lokalen Forschungsschwerpunkte genannt. Das Buch wird im Auftrag der Wissenschaftlichen Kommission Wirtschaftsinformatik im Verband der Hochschullehrer für Betriebswirtschaft e. V. herausgegeben. 1981 wurde es von J. Griese, U. Pape, P. Schmitz, D. Seibt und R. Thome als "Studien-und Forschungsführer Betriebs-und Wirtschaftsinformatik" begründet. Über verschiedene Auflagen hinweg erfuhr es diverse Veränderungen. Nunmehr beschränken wir uns im Wesentlichen auf das Lehrangebot und konzentrieren uns damit noch mehr auf unsere Zielgruppe (siehe oben). Hingegen ist es jetzt naheliegend, die zuweilen rasch wech selnden Forschungsprojekte im Internet zu veröffentlichen. Dieser Aufgabe hat sich W. This volume contains the results of the International Conference on "Man aging Enterprises ofthe New Economy by Modem Concepts ofthe Theory ofthe Firm", which took place in Hagen from 12-14 December 2002. The conference was organised jointly by the FernUniversität in Hagen and the Erich-Gutenberg-Arbeitsgemeinschaft in Cologne. The Deutsche For schungsgemeinschaft, the FernUniversität and the Märkische Bank in Hagen provided generous financial support for the conference, and in fact enabled its implementation and the publication of this record of the pro ceedings. We would like to express our gratitude to the sponsors for their support. The aim of the conference was the exchange of academic experience with regard to new approaches to, and extensions of, the theory of the firm that can be used to solve the problems of New Economy companies. The starting point was the practical experience that the owners and managers of New Economy companies paid too little attention to functional company controls in the general euphoria regarding future economic trends and that because of this the enterprises got into difficulties or were faced with threats to their survival. These control deficits were detected equally in the areas of sales, production, personnel planning, organisation and finance and in the arrangement of management and control structures. Deficiencies in company evaluations and accounting led to investors experiencing se vere disappointment on the loss of their invested capital.
