The book provides an account of many Jesuits, from the time of St. Ignatius to the 1990's, who have been incarcerated around the world for their faith. It is divided into chapters that deal with specific themes related to their imprisonment. The principal themes are: prayer as a key element in survival, arrest and trial procedures, the experience of suffering, Mass, the daily order of prison life, forced labor, ministry to other prisoners, guards, prisoners who became Jesuits while imprisoned, community in prison, and voluntary incarceration. This is the first book to examine the experience of incarcerated Jesuits around the world and down through the centuries from the standpoint of these various themes. Much of the material is by the Jesuits themselves, in letters, autobiographical fragments and other sources--including obscure publications long out of print. The result is a gathering together of these pieces and fragments into a coordinated whole, with commentary on their significance in the context of the political and cultural situations of their time--situations that were generally the immediate cause of the Jesuits imprisonment, whether in Elizabethan England or in Communist China and Russia. A chart of imprisoned Jesuits by country of incarceration at the beginning, and a glossary of names at the back (as well as an index), will help the reader to keep track of the names of the many Jesuits who figure in the book.

In many cases, we hear these men tell their stories in their own words - stories that describe not only the struggle to cope with grim physical realities but also the struggle of the spirit in communion with Christ." "The book is organized around a series of themes, such as Arrest and Trial, Voluntary Incarceration, Physical Suffering, Brothers, Prayer in Prison and Daily Order, with examples from the experiences of the men to illustrate these aspects of their lives as prisoners. It also provides an introduction to the Society of Jesus, exploring the philosophy of St. Ignatius of Loyola, his Spiritual Exercises, and the training that young men receive."--Jacket.

Unknowingly to me, the writing of this book commenced decades ago while traveling my thirty-five state territories as a tractor trailer driver. Listening to volumes of the Bible on cassette tapes, I often felt compelled to pull over and write on various issues as they occurred to me. Across the years, I improved, but not until I became a serious reader did I develop my present style through the influence of various prolific authors: GK Chesterton, C. S. Lewis, John MacArthur, and others. This book is a collection of theological essays, poetry, and short stories, some of which are true stories of my road trips and life experiences. In a backsliding state, however, some old bad habits revisited, landing me in prison. As I entered my first jail cell, it was vacant except for a beautiful leather-bound NKJ version of the Bible and a copy of a Strong's Concise Concordance of the Bible still sealed in cellophane wrap. That, my friends, I needn't say but I will anyway is an unheard of incident in 10 million vacant jail cells. So now I had just what I would need to polish my previous work, the time, pardon the pun, and the equipment. For my familiarity with the Bible was exhaustive, but only on tape so the concordance was what I would need to find my way around. This was to me a sign from God clearer than words. In addition to reading and writing, I lead Bible study in county jail, and eventually in state prison I shared my work from the pulpit at our chapel. It was then that I felt lead to compose this book; however, it was the Holy Spirit's help and energy who made it happen. I pray that it produces the ends to which it is sent multiplying the faithful among men in Christ Jesus. Remember to pray for the men and women who have lost their way.

Jail House Religion written by Stephen Canup and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-07-21 with categories.

After being on top of the world with an office on Park Avenue, Stephen Canup lost it all and found himself homeless and incarcerated. Jail-House Religion is his true life story of God's redeeming love and grace. "Jail-House Religion", a term we have all heard and often made fun of, can be "the real thing" and not just "a cheap imitation". Stephen Canup knows first-hand how real and lasting a true relationship with Jesus can be. Jesus found Stephen in prison - broken, bound, battered, betrayed and busted. But Jesus saved him and changed him forever. This is his story."Jail-House Religion"-How many times have we heard that phrase? It's usually in a mocking way. Is it the "real thing" or a "cheap imitation"? Can someone really find God in a jail or prison? Is God close enough to sinners there to hear their sincere cry? Can a person really be heard by Him if they commit, or re-dedicate, their hearts to walk with Christ? Can He actually use a convict, who turns his life around, to advance the cause of His Kingdom?Having once been incarcerated for nearly three years, Stephen knows first-hand what "society" says and thinks about prisoners - they call them misfits, outcasts and career criminals. For the most part, they despise prisoners. Society thinks they are worthless, dangerous and not capable of changing their ways. But many people have been "imprisoned" in the free world by their own bad choices even though they may have never been actually "incarcerated". When someone is as low as they can go, and think that the only "light at the end of the tunnel" is a train headed their way, what do they do? When they finally wake up one day and realize they are sick and tired of being in bondage because of our own stupid actions, wrong decisions and addictions, to whom do they turn? Isn't this the best time to cry out to God?God always runs to welcome truly repentant sinners! Stephen's story is very much like "the prodigal son" in Luke 15!

Breaking Out Of Prison With Jesus written by Paul Roussel and has been published by Independently Published this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-11-06 with categories.

Breaking Out of Prison with Jesus explains the challenges that ex-offenders face as they reenter society. The central theme of the book highlights how a personal saving faith in the Lord Jesus Christ is the only path to successfully transition out of prison. Christian Aftercare Ministries (CAM) provides the spiritual and physical support as well as accountability to help men and women successfully reenter society. Breaking Out of Prison with Jesus describes the key steps that puts the ex-offender on a path to a positive Christian life after prison. CAM and its support network help and encourage clients to find a good job and safe housing, as well as connect with a Bible-believing church where they live. Attending Bible studies with supportive Christian leaders is also critical. A number of prison chaplains, local pastors, and laypeople volunteer both in prisons and on the outside to provide these opportunities. CAM's strategy is to have each client know and experience a strong Christian support structure surrounding them. Relying on Jesus and their faith is at the foundation of their success. Ex-offenders face many challenges on the outside. Falling into old habits and old relationships can sometimes put them right back in prison. Breaking out of that cycle through their faith in Jesus and the support of ministries like CAM is possible, as the many success stories highlighted in the book illustrate. CAM also desires young people to see that serving Jesus in prison ministry is one of the greatest blessings and to get involved in sharing the Gospel in prisons and jails and through aftercare ministries like CAM.

For Paul, who imprisoned Christians, his own incarceration ironically became a way in which he understood his mission. Paul's convictions and his rhetoric were often shaped during those times when chains constrained him from travelling. By examining a wide variety of sources-such as ancient novels, dream interpretations and moral tractates-Wansink first describes prison conditions and the daily life of prisoners, in the Graeco-Roman world. Subsequent exegetical chapters focus on two epistles Paul wrote from prison: Philippians and Philemon. This book replaces a 'docetic' view of Paul's incarceration with an original insight into how prison would have shaped his interaction with the Philippians and Philemon.

This is the true story of a young boy who grew up with a deep desire for love and acceptance. Instead he was harshly abused and mistreated by his alcoholic preacher father and older brother. He grew into a violent man whose life consisted of fights, and scrapes with law enforcement. He learned to run when things got really tough. Often, he sought the will of God for his life, rising from being a victim to an overcomer several times, however drugs and alcohol always pulled him back down. He had a beautiful wife and children that he loved dearly, but when things got tough, he'd walk away into the ready arms of alcohol and other women. This would be his undoing. Finally, one day in 1984, a shootout left a man dead and him in the county jail on a murder charge. Thinking his life was over, he attempted to end his life, but two ministers of God felt led to pray with him, thus preventing his death. Finally, in an honest attempt to be set free from his guilt and pain, he cried out to God, and God saved him and set him free. He found that God was not finished with him and discovered his life had just begun. This story is a must read for evangelical use or prison ministry, for it points those who are going astray including those already in jails or prisons to the cross of Calvary and to a loving, forgiving Savior who will set them free too. Jimmy Windham has been in a maximum-security prison in the South Carolina prison system for over 34 years. Though his life and testimony have won many men to Christ; he still requests prayers for the strength of Christ in his everyday life. Bro. Jimmy is still in prison, but by God's anointing on his life, he is standing in faith and still testifying of God's delivering power over sin and brokenness.

A number of years ago, the Lord called me to put everything down in a book and to let individuals know and see what he has been doing in my life and within the prison cell throughout world. I started to write this book, it contains some of my own personal experiences of Gods power within the prison cell, especially here in Nothern Ireland. Also I am involved with many other inmates through correspondance from other parts of the world. Again through this Ministry I have received incredible and amazing testimonies of Gods healing power from all over the world. The book contains many testimonies of healing, written by inmates again from all over the world. I talk about my highs and lows, the times I struggle etc. I have read many books on prison etc but never have I ever read a collection of so many events and miracles that are taken from prisons throughout the world. The title is as it states "Reflection of Christ" Gods power inside the prison cell. This book contains some of the events that I have experienced over a three year period. There are funny stories, and others that will make you cry. Many people will be amazed at what is written. It is God who receives all of the Glory, many through this book will come to know and see how real he is and the Grace and Mercy he has towards these outcasts of society.
