Ethel May Whittle: A Limited History illuminates the life of woman who lived independently through the first half of the twentieth century. Her ancestors' practice of accepting a world larger than one's starting place in life, likely inspired her. Ethel, as a single woman, was not afraid to diverge from the expectations held for many small town women of her era. From Scotland and England over two hundred years ago, different parts of the family made their way to Melbourne in Victoria, a number of locations in northern and north west Tasmania, and touched on Sydney and Africa. In particular, Ethel's Whittle family world centred on the Tyne River Valley in Tasmania's north east. Her story starts with sets of great grandparents, introduces her grandparents, then moves to the lives of her parents to provide a context for her actions. After Ethel's relationships with her siblings are considered, the book focusses on her personal history.

The late Dr. Adam Clarke, published in 1822, "Memoirs of the Wesley Family" in a large octavo volume, but which, on account of the introduction of a vast quantity of extraneous and unnecessary matter, is not well adapted for general circulation. The Price also prevented many from purchasing it. On these grounds the Compiler of the following Work is of opinion, that a condensed, and well arranged Memoir of the Wesley Family, at a moderate price, and written "with special reference to general readers," was still wanting. First Published in 1980 Victoria and Albert at Home describes the sitting, construction, and decorating of the two royal residences at Osborne and Balmoral and paints a memorable portrait of the Queen's family and her Court beside the Solent and the Dee. At the time of their marriage the royal couple had the use of many crown properties, but, except for Windsor Castle, they found none to their taste and began to look for a home of their own. Sir Robert Peel found them an estate on the Isle of Wight, which was peaceful, beautiful, and at that time sufficiently remote from London. However, when access from London became swifter and easier, their privacy was lost, and they looked elsewhere for a second private family residence. A small estate in Scotland was recommended and Prince Albert once again designed the house, this time in Scottish baronial style.
