Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2003 im Fachbereich Kulturwissenschaften - Europa, Note: 1,7, Europa-Universität Viadrina Frankfurt (Oder) (Kulturwissenschaftliche Fakultät), Veranstaltung: Wissenschaftliches Schreiben für KulturwissenschaftlerInnen, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Die vorliegende Arbeit beschäftigt sich mit der germanisch-nordischen Mythologie. Aufgrund des Umfanges, den dieses Thema hat, muß hier eine Einschränkung auf einen Teilbereich vorgenommen werden. Aus diesem Grund handelt diese Arbeit vom Elfenglauben. Zunächst jedoch wird die ‚Heimat’ der Elfen, die Insel Island, als Ausgangspunkt in einer kurzen Übersicht dargestellt und zwar bezüglich geschichtlicher, geographischer und gesellschaftlicher Aspekte. Dies geschieht zur Einführung in die Thematik. Das Hauptaugenmerk dieser Arbeit richtet sich allerdings auf die Elfen. Bevor sie in einem weiteren Teil anhand ihrer ‚Welt’ eingeführt werden, wird die „Anderswelt“ skizziert, die nach heidnischem Glauben existiert und in der die Elfen, genauso wie die Menschen, ihr Zuhause haben. Darauf folgt eine Übersicht über Erscheinungsformen und Lebensraum der Elfen. Schließlich werden die beiden Welten (die der Elfen und die der Menschen) zusammengeführt und gemeinsam betrachtet, besonders im Hinblick auf den Umgang mit dem Elfen-Mythos in Island. Die Arbeit soll Antworten liefern auf die Frage wie die Isländer heutzutage mit dem Glauben an Elfen und an all die anderen mystischen Wesen umgehen, ob sie zu ihrem Glauben stehen, oder unter dem Deckmantel des Christentums ‚heimlich’ ihrer eigenen ‚Religion’ folgen. Es wird deutlich, auf welche Art und Weise dieses Nebeneinander funktioniert und wie man sich diese Naturgeister zunutze machen kann. Darüberhinaus wurde überprüft, welches die Hintergründe für die Beschäftigung mit mythologischen Wesen sind und weshalb sie sich bis in die heutige hochmoderne Zeit erhalten konnten.
