O Pierwszym Marszałku Polski Józefie Piłsudskim, postaci niezwykle ważnej nie tylko dla polskiej historii, napisano już wiele, przy czym zainteresowanie rodzimej historiografii budził on już w okresie międzywojennym. Z tego też powodu bibliografia różnorodnych opracowań dotyczących osoby i działalności publicznej Marszałka jest pokaźna i stale przyrasta. Obecnie dysponujemy co najmniej kilkoma ważnymi biografiami Józefa Piłsudskiego oraz dziełami ukazującymi kalendarium jego bogatego życia. Podobnie jest też z publikacjami źródeł dotyczących jego działalności politycznej i państwowej oraz wojskowej. Wydano także pisma zbiorowe Marszałka. Józef Piłsudski był bowiem jednym z twórców polskiej niepodległości z 1918 r.12 oraz zwycięskim Wodzem Naczelnym, który w 1920 r. uratował zarówno Polskę, jak i Europę przed inwazją Robotniczo-Chłopskiej Armii Czerwonej, a więc także przed powszechną komunistyczną rewolucją europejską i sowietyzacją. Czy to, co napisano powyżej, oznacza, że o osobie i działalności Pierwszego Marszałka Polski Józefa Piłsudskiego wiemy już wszystko? Oczywiście nie. Potrzeba więc dalszych krytycznych badań i analiz źródłowych oraz będących ich efektem publikacji, szczególnie poświęconych tym kwestiom, które do tej pory przebadano i opisano słabo bądź których nie poruszano wcale. Powstał więc tom, który ukazuje osobę i czyny Pierwszego Marszałka Polski przez pryzmat problemów, które do tej pory były rzadko poruszane przez polską historiografię i które mogą stanowić nowe i nieco odmienne spojrzenie na jedną z kilku najważniejszych postaci polskiej historii XX w.
