Excerpt from Women in the Apostolic Church: A Critical Study of the Evidence in the New Testament for the Prominence of Women in Early Christianity The prominent part played by women in the primitive Christian communities has not been overlooked by commentators on the New Testament or by writers of works on the apostolic age. But the subject cannot be said to have received the attention which its interest and importance demand. There would seem to be no book, at least in English, in which a connected and critical account of the evidence may be found. Imperfect as I feel my work to be, the present essay is an attempt to supply this need. Among the authorities cited in the footnotes, I must specially acknowledge my obligations to the following well-known works: Dr. Plummer's edition of St. Luke's Gospel in the International Critical Commentary, and in the same Commentary, the First Epistle to the Corinthians by Bishop Robertson and Dr. Plummer; the commentaries on the Acts of the Apostles by Dr. Knowling, in the Expositor's Greek Testament, and by Mr. Rackham, in the Westminster Commentaries; Sir William Ramsay's The Church in the Roman Empire before A.D. 170 and St. Paul the Traveller and Roman Citizen; the Dictionary of the Bible and the Dictionary of the Apostolic Church (Vol I.), edited by Dr. Hastings. There are millions of Christian women who have heard the call of God to ministry. They are ready, willing and able to preach the gospel and make disciples. However, many of them have been discouraged from doing these very things not by the world but by the church. This book was written to help women understand and answer the call to apostolic ministry. Its purpose is to both clarify the nature of apostolic ministry and to help women recognize that they are to work alongside the men in the church to fulfill the Great Commission: preaching the gospel, making disciples, and leading the Body of Christ into its future.

Scientific Essay from the year 2017 in the subject Theology - Miscellaneous, grade: A.1, , course: WOMEN AND RELIGION, language: English, abstract: Despite pronounced and lingering patriarchy and the contemptuous treatment of women as well as their contributions to the society and virtually all human endeavours, studies have proven women’s enormous contribution to humanity and divinity. Descriptively and objectively, this study appraises women’s enormous contributions to the Church, particularly in the New Testament era as well as in relation to the contemporary era. God, knowing woman more than man can ever attempt, created Eve for Adam’s companionship, help, support and procreation and chose Mary Blessed virgin to be the mother of Jesus. The most distinct role the woman had played to divinity is her conception, carrying and bringing of God the son, Jesus Christ, to the earth for the redemption of mankind. This study has found that women contributed enormously to apostolic work in the New Testament in several ways. It recommends that it is high time we devoted more literature and other forms of arts appreciation to women, past and present, rather than playing down such roles. There is need to appreciate women for whatever role they have played right from the beginning of Christ’s ministry through His disciples’ apostolic work to the present Church’s activities, well being/fare, growth and development. The study is anchored on the modernisation feminism theory, which rejects patriarchy. Qualitative approach, text-content analysis and both primary and secondary sources of data collation are employed. Several library print materials and the internet sources make up the secondary data sources, while interview, observation and intuition form the primary sources.

Power Of Sisterhood written by Margaret Cain McCarthy and has been published by University Press of America this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-09-24 with Religion categories.

In 2008, the Vatican Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life initiated an Apostolic Visitation to examine the quality of life of women religious in the United States. Power of Sisterhood: Women Religious Tell the Story of the Apostolic Visitation serves as an historical record of the event and describes the experience of the women who participated in it. This book, initiated by a group of women in leadership in their communities during this unprecedented time, grew out of a survey that gleaned the essence of the experience from as many congregations of women religious as possible. After framing the Visitation as a story, situating it in an historical and theological context, tracing its chronology, and detailing the experience as revealed in the survey, the book delves into the deeper meaning of the Visitation for women religious as they experienced it and as they move into the future.
