The myths and legends of Scotland are full of what is called "local colour". Then in 1870 the UK Education Act undertook to teach all children how to read and the art of storytelling all but died out altogether. It enraged Beira greatly to find her power passing away, and she tried her utmost to prolong the winter season by raising spring storms and sending blighting frost to kill early flowers and keep the grass from growing."
