Residential buildings have continuously improved in energy efficiency, partly as a consequence of the introduction of energy regulations in many countries. Although better thermal properties and systems efficiency have lowered energy consumption for space heating in recent decades, substantial differences in energy consumption in similar dwellings are still being observed. These differences in consumption are thought to be caused by differences in occupancy patterns, by quality of construction and by rebound effects.This research addresses the effect of energy performance regulations and occupant behaviour on energy consumption for space and water heating in dwellings built after the introduction of the energy performance regulations in the Netherlands. The results of this research show that improving the energy efficiency of buildings alone is not enough to decrease that energy consumption.

Dit boek schetst de situatie op de Vlaamse woningmarkt anno 2018. Het is gebaseerd op onderzoek binnen het Steunpunt Wonen. De voornaamste indicatoren die relevant zijn voor het woonbeleid en specifieke woonthema’s komen aan bod. De resultaten laten zien dat de kwaliteit van de woningen in Vlaanderen verbetert en dat het risico op betaalbaarheidsproblemen stagneert, voor zowel huurders als eigenaars. Ze bevestigen ook dat blijvende aandacht nodig is voor de kwetsbare huishoudens op de woningmarkt. De gegevens zijn afkomstig uit de Woonsurvey 2018, die uitgevoerd werd binnen het Steunpunt Wonen. Dit is de derde grootschalige bevraging in Vlaanderen die specifiek gericht is op het thema wonen, na het Grote Woononderzoek (GWO) uit 2013 en de Woonsurvey van 2005. In de loop van 2018 werden hiervoor ongeveer 3000 huishoudens in Vlaanderen geïnterviewd over hun woonsituatie.

Business Models for Renewable Energy in the Built Environment provides insight to policy makers and market actors as to the ways that new and innovative business models (and/or policy measures) can stimulate the deployment of renewable energy technologies (RET) and energy efficiency (EE) measures in this field. This project was initiated and funded by the IEA Implementing Agreement for Renewable Energy Technology Deployment (IEA-RETD). It analyses ten business models in three categories, covering different types of energy service companies (ESCO’s). Included developing properties certified with a ‘green’ building label building owners profiting from rent increases after EE measures property Assessed Clean Energy (PACE) financing on-bill financing leasing of RET equipment. Coverage extends to the organisational and financial structure of the models and the existing market and policy context, plus analysis of Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats (SWOT). The book concludes with recommendations for policy makers and other market actors on how to encourage and accelerate built environment renewable energy technologies.
