This landmark report by the ILO Global Commission on the Future of Work examines how to achieve a better future of work for all at a time of unprecedented change and exceptional challenges in the world of work. Co-chaired by South African President Cyril Ramaphosa and Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Lèfven, the independent 27-member Commission includes leading global figures from business, trade unions, think tanks, government and non-governmental organizations. It was established by the International Labour Organization in 2017 as part of the ILO's Future of Work Centenary Initiative. The Organization marks its centenary in 2019. Among the key issues considered by the Commission are new forms of work, the institutional ramifications of the changing nature of work, lifelong learning, greater inclusivity and gender equality, the measurement of work and human well-being, and the role of universal social protection in a stable and just future of work.

Most full time, part time and adult students have decided to spend an enormous amount of their time on academic and vocational courses in order to increase their chances of pursuing a rewarding career. Such rewards may be financial, job satisfaction, self-fulfilment or for community spirit. In any case, their ultimate success depends not only on their qualification certificate but also on their ability to engage with their audiences in communication and writing. One “acid test” is usually at an interview where their employability is judged on many elements, one of which is the ability to communicate effectively.Increased chances of employability are not always realised through just having strong academic qualifications, but also having the “soft skills” of communicating and the confidence in the appropriate use and application of some basic terms and words used in the workplace, whether it be academic or operational. The first part of the book illustrates some typical job advertisements where many key words and phrases can be found. It is important that job applicants can highlight such key words and phrases and fully understand and apply these key words as they could easily form a basis of questions posed by the interviewer. The second part of the book offers explanations and supporting examples for the many common terms and words used in studies and the operational workplace. Some of these terms and words can be confusing and if used out of context can be misleading and ultimately causing a waste of time and effort. The style of this publication is to present simple explanations and simple examples of the appropriate application of such terms and key words. This will benefit the reader and allow them to more fully understand, appreciate and more effectively apply these words in either their studies and/or in the workplace. It will also allow the reader to better appreciate and understand the specialist books and publications. This publication is as a result of the author's experiences in lecturing over ten years and many of these explanations have been used in class to support lecture content and the learning process of students. Some 200 key words will form the basis of this publication which are commonly used in studies and the operational workplace. Also included are some basic management tools and techniques such as S.W.O.T., P.E.S.T.L.E., the Loyalty Ladder, Blooms Ladder, etc. Knowledge and understanding of these tools and techniques will help the student and the reader to apply more effectively solutions to either case study scenarios or real work situations. Each word described will be followed with a Quiz question/exercise so the student can test their learning. Answers are provided at the rear of the book. With more and more students enrolling on Management based courses where the delivery language is English, but the student's first language is not English, there is a risk that the connection is not made between some key words and terms and their effective application in both academic arenas and the workplace. There is also the need to address falling standards of literacy. This publication offers help and guidance to improve standards of literacy. For students returning to study later in life, this publication will allow em to revisit terminology that they may have used, but may have forgotten. For each word, there is a description of what the word means and what other words it can be confused with, in order to highlight the differences. The words are presented as “doing words”; i.e. verbs and not nouns in order to emphasis working processes and not events. To underpin the knowledge and understanding of key words, there is at the end of each section, a Quiz which will allow the reader to apply their improved understanding. These Quizzes are one of four types, namely calculations, tasks, questions or research based.

The twentieth century bequeathed us a fabulous gift: thirty more years of life on average. Supersized life spans are going to radically alter society, and present an unprecedented opportunity to change our approach not only to old age but to all of life's stages. The ramifications are just beginning to dawn on us.... yet in the meantime, we keep thinking about, and planning for, life as it used to be lived. In A Long Bright Future, longevity and aging expert Laura Carstensen guides us into the new possibilities offered by a longer life. She debunks the myths and misconceptions about aging that stop us from adequately preparing for the future both as individuals and as a society: that growing older is associated with loneliness and unhappiness, and that only the genetically blessed live well and long. She then focuses on other important components of a long life, including finances, health, social relationships, Medicare and Social Security, challenging our preconceived notions of “old age” every step of the way.

A Brighter Future written by Richard Holt and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-12-18 with Business & Economics categories.

As the United States continues its slow climb out of the Great Recession, it is important to focus on new directions to improve the standard of living in America. This book explores what is behind a faltering standard of living in the United States since the early 1980s and what can be done to restore it. The book is uniquely valuable in going beyond mainstream thinking about how to restore prosperity. Economics has traditionally equated economic growth (increases in per capita income) with improvements in quality of life and the standard of living. This book questions that assumption. The different chapters in the book show the standard of living as being more than income, to include many non-market aspects such as access to public goods (roads, clean air and water, schools, parks, and museums), intangible aspects of quality of life such as equity and a sense of community, and broadly based economic opportunities. This means that improving the standard of living is a multi-dimensional challenge rather than one of solely increasing aggregate demand, productivity, or GDP. This book embodies a pluralistic approach and draws on the expertise of a wide array of thinkers. The intended audience is for various courses offered in economics, sociology, political science, public policy programs, and in environmental and ecological studies.

Labour Law Utopias written by Nicolas Bueno and has been published by Oxford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024-08-01 with Law categories.

Labour Law Utopias: Post-Growth & Post-Productive Work Approaches engages with new socioeconomic ideas that look beyond the current growth-driven competitive market economy. Building on analysis of economic growth, as well as the limits of the logic of human productivity and competitivity for workers and the environment, it explores alternative approaches and what those will mean for work in general, and labour law in particular. The concept of 'post-growth' is used to rethink the purpose of the economy by looking beyond merely increasing wealth, consumption, and production, considering what this means for the position of work in society as well as the individual worker. The post-productive work approach is used to question the centrality of economically productive work and its regulation in labour laws. The chapters in this book take a progressive approach and discuss whether and how labour law can contribute to the emancipation of work from the constraints of growth and productivity by revisiting the value, organization, and impact of work. With these utopian ideas for labour law, the contributions in this book present inspirational 'dots on the horizon' that could guide the direction of changes in labour law as it navigates issues such as the implementation of digital and green solutions, the energy crisis, migration, rising inequality, and precariousness.
