Life has never been easy for anyone who dared to challenge the status-quo. In 2008, I was working in India with one of the best banks in the world but had a dream of going to Singapore one day. I worked tirelessly for more than 3-4 years finding a job in Singapore while I was in India. I was desperately trying hard applying hundreds of posts every week, emailing job consultants, calling them sometimes but it seemed to be just a dream as I was hardly getting any interview calls until I figured out the way. However, there have been few ups and downs in the story. It took me seven years to write down this book not because it was going to be a novel of thousands of pages but because I lost my job just after a few weeks of arriving in Singapore and one more time after I already had been here for a couple of years. I decided to my thoughts and experiences in the form of a book so that it's helpful for others too who are searching for a job in Singapore. (Connect me on LinkedIn- https://www.linkedin.com/in/rajeshlaskary/)I have structured the book in 3 parts with all my personal experience while answering some questions readers will have in their mind.Part 1: Finding a Job in Singapore Chapter 1: Why Singapore?Chapter 2: Permanent, Contract and Short Term Contract JobsChapter 3: The Typical Job Sectors to Apply Chapter 4: Can I Study and Work? How Much Can I Earn?Chapter 5: The Process of Getting a Job and Relevant VisaChapter 6: Important Things to Do Before You Apply for Any Job in Singapore Chapter 7: Preparing for InterviewsChapter 8: Recruitment Consultancies in Singapore Part 2: Visa Issues & PrecautionsChapter 9: Visa Issues & PrecautionsChapter 10: What Happens and What to Do If You Lose Your Job? Part 3: Average Expenses, Taxes & SalariesChapter 11: Average Expenses and TaxesChapter 12: Average Salary in Singapore Chapter 13: Negotiating Benefits and RelocatingChapter 14: Dos and Don'ts in Singapore

Hard At Work written by Gerard Sasges and has been published by National University of Singapore Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019 with Business & Economics categories.

For most of us, work is a basic daily fact of life. But that simple fact encompasses an incredibly wide range of experiences. Hard at Work takes readers into the day-to-day work experiences of more than fifty working people in Singapore who hold jobs that run from the ordinary to the unusual: from ice cream vendors, baristas, police officers and funeral directors to academic ghostwriters, temple flower sellers, and Thai disco girl agents. Through first-person narratives based on detailed interviews, vividly augmented with color photographs, Hard at Work reminds us of the everyday labor that continually goes on around us, and that every job can reveal something interesting if we just look closely enough. It shows us too the ways inequalities of status and income are felt and internalized in this highly globalized society.

Understanding games--whether computer games, card games, board games, or sports--by analyzing certain common traits. Characteristics of Games offers a new way to understand games: by focusing on certain traits--including number of players, rules, degrees of luck and skill needed, and reward/effort ratio--and using these characteristics as basic points of comparison and analysis. These issues are often discussed by game players and designers but seldom written about in any formal way. This book fills that gap. By emphasizing these player-centric basic concepts, the book provides a framework for game analysis from the viewpoint of a game designer. The book shows what all genres of games--board games, card games, computer games, and sports--have to teach each other. Today's game designers may find solutions to design problems when they look at classic games that have evolved over years of playing.

From the Preface The sacrifices of migrant workers are written in every inch of Singapore – in the bricks of buildings, ship irons, under the floor of houses. Thousands of years later, someone may hear the story of our pain and sacrifice from the walls of this city. After about a decade here, I have many stories and recollections to share with you. This diary contains the collected fragments of my experiences. It is not my intention to write anything against my homeland or this country. No hurt feelings, please. I have just written down the most valuable moments of my life here. This diary records observations from my reality. From the Foreword by Gwee Li Sui The records from hours between 2008 and 2016 take us on a harsh, profoundly emotional journey. Let us remember that we are meeting a passage of real life that runs concurrent to ours within this alleged city of dreams. The book is therefore urgent because it breaks open the hearts of readers to what our eyes fail to see. As Sharif’s words invade our sense of self and of place, our world cannot be the same again.
