World War II significantly impacted the lives of children who grew up during that time. From the 1940s to the present day, many novels about the second World War have been written for children and young adults, with the intent of informing young people about the tumultuous events of that period. Many of these novels feature young people as characters, and thus depict the impact of the war on children. This bibliography provides a comprehensive record of the juvenile novels of World War II. Included are annotated entries for more than 400 novels. Only juvenile novels written or translated into English are included. The entries are arranged chronologically by year, and then alphabetically by author within each chronological section. Excluded are short stories, non-fiction, and picture books. The bibliography is an accurate guide to how the second World War has been interpreted for children and adolescents, how the holocaust has been treated in juvenile literature, and how social issues such as race relations and sex roles have been discussed.

The Sino-Japanese War (1937 – 1945) was fought in the Asia-Pacific theatre between Imperial Japan and China, with the United States as the latter’s major military ally. An important line of investigation remains, questioning how the history of this war has been passed on to post-war generations’ consciousness, and how information sources, particularly those exposed to young people in their formative years, shape their knowledge and bias of the conflict as well as World War II more generally. This book is the first to focus on how the Sino-Japanese War has been represented in non-English and English sources for children and young adults. As a cross-cultural study and an interdisciplinary endeavour, it not only examines youth-orientated publications in China and the United States, but also draws upon popular culture, novelists’ memoirs, and family oral narratives to make comparisons between fiction and history, Chinese and American sources, and published materials and private memories of the war. Through quantitative narrative analysis, literary and visual analysis, and socio-political critique, it shows the dominant pattern of war stories, traces chronological changes over the seven decades from 1937 to 2007, and teases out the ways in which the history of the Sino-Japanese War has been constructed, censored, and utilized to serve shifting agendas. Providing a much needed examination of public memory, literary representation, and popular imagination of the Sino-Japanese War, this book will have huge interdisciplinary appeal, particularly for students and scholars of Asian history, literature, society and education.

Upon reading and becoming inspired by the works of Spencer Johnson and his profound parables that transcend race, gender, profession, time, and age, I chose to write a parable covering World War II. If George Orwell could create a masterpiece by making pigs of men, I figured even the feeblest of minds could make boys of countries. Often times less is more; whether in terms of orated speeches, presentations, books, or conversations. Although lengthy books are of necessity for experts and those aspiring to be, the average person will simply neglect a 650-page book concerning World War II, or any singular event in history. Instead, with a society that places a premium on time, people want to receive information in a concise, insightful, and efficient manner. Hence, I attempted to achieve just that in this short story. This is book provides a parable/story that offers a fresh, unique, and profound way to look at World War II, by seeing it through the actions of school children within a schoolhouse. First and foremost, the title Kids Will Be Kids refers to the old adage that basically explains kids do what they do because that's what they've always done. In other words, history repeats itself. Each character found within the pages of this book represent the involved nations and their actions during the melodrama of World War II. Each of these actions and their roles, subsequently, led to its start in September of 1939 and its eventual conclusion in August of 1945. Even though a reader would have to delve into additional books to fully comprehend World War II, the transgressions within this book could be used to serve multiple purposes and to reach a variety of fronts. There are main derivatives that this book offers to a reader? it is refreshing and profound, it is simplistic yet challenging, and it is both efficient and engaging. This book offers something pertaining to World War II that is fresh, unique, and powerful? something that shies away from the dull and dreary, the minute details and the content associated with history.
