Excerpt from World Wool Prospects: July 30, 1932; Wool-51 Relatively restricted trading prevailed in tops and noils during the first part of June, but increased business developed around the middle of the month, especially for fine crossbred tops. Buying interest for noils Was especially good toward the end of the month, when the firmer tone of overseas markets aided the tendency on the Continent. Occupation in the wool industry in Germany in June was about unchanged, with worsted spinners still receiving relatively more new orders and worsted mills relatively more active than in the woolen section. Excerpt from World Wool Prospects: July 30, 1935 The outstanding feature of the wool situation in early July was the great reduction in stocks of raw wool in the Southern Hemisphere and the United States as compared with the heavy supplies held on January 1. As a result of the great improvement in demand in the latter part of the 1934-35 season, stocks at Southern Hemisphere markets on July 1, the close of the season in a majority of the Southern Hemisphere countries, were well below expectations in the early part of the season. Incomplete returns indicate, however, that stocks were still larger than at the same time last year when they were slightly above the average for the 5 preceding years. The stocks are principally crossbred wools in New Zealand and Argentina. It is uh officially estimated that stocks of merino wool in Australia and the Union of South Africa! Constitute only a little over one-tenth of the total quantity remaining on hand. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Excerpt from World Wool Prospects Wrol continues to move in only moderate quantities in the Boston market and prices on most lines have declined slightly in recent weeks. Demand is mainly fo 585, 6os and finer wools, although a limited inquiry has been received on all grades. Prices of domestic wool at Woston have remained quite stable during the past six months compared with prices in London which have declined much more rapidly. This has increased the margin between domestic and foreign prices and any sustained recovery in the domestic market must be backed up by a rise in foreign prices. Excerpt from World Wool Prospects: October 28, 1931 The most pronounced weakness in prices came in the original bag lines of the 64e and finer western wools. Bulk average French combing Wools in the original bags selling late in August at 57-58 cents, scoured basis, declined to around 55 cents. Choice lines that previously have been report ed bringing 58 - 60 cents, scoured basis, would not command over 57 cents late in September, although some houses refused to meet this lower figure. Lines of 64s and finer qualities containing mostly clothing and Short French combing staple declined from 55 - 56 cents, scoured basis, to 50 - 53 cents. These lines comprised a large proportion of the September demand and the declines came about as the result of unsettled.markets abroad and the great ly diminished call from domestic manufacturers. Excerpt from World Wool Prospects: October 30, 1933; Wool-66 The improved condition of the wool industry was fairly well maintained during September and October in the United States and in foreign countries, according to the Bureau of Agricultural Economics. Wool prices remained firm in the domestic market though trading at Boston in October was slow in con trast to the high activity in September. Prices in foreign markets were slightly irregular and declines were reported from the Southern Hemisphere the latter part of September. Opening prices for merino wools were not fully maintained to the close of the London series on October 11. Higher prices have been reported from.the foreign market since the middle of October. Excerpt from World Wool Prospects: July 31, 1930; Wool-28 Demand was very strong on 48s,503 domestic wools, mostly within ranges of prices quoted at the end of May. The scoured basis values of Fleeces appreciated slightly during June. Before the slackening in demand late in June the effort to advance prices seemed to be making headway but as demand fell off, quotations remained firm at the highest levels attained and demand continued fair, perhaps even nearer to the early June volume than in case of most other grades. Foreign fine Merino wools were very dull throughout the month. N moderate demand was received on South American crossbred wools of 508 and lower qualities and prices on these lines advanced cent per pound, grease basis in bond.
