Examensarbeit aus dem Jahr 2009 im Fachbereich Didaktik für das Fach Englisch - Pädagogik, Sprachwissenschaft, Note: 1,0, Johann Wolfgang Goethe-Universität Frankfurt am Main, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: In meiner jahrelangen Tätigkeit als Nachhilfelehrkraft in diversen Schulen bin ich zu der erschütternden Erkenntnis gelangt, dass systematische und kreative lexikalische Übungs-praxis nach wie vor nicht oder kaum in den Klassenzimmern Einzug gehalten hat und die viel gepriesene Wortschatzwende in der Praxis offenbar noch kaum stattgefunden hat. SchülerInnen werden beim Üben von Wortschatz allzu oft sich selbst überlassen. Während die Erklärung und Semantisierung von Wortschatz in der Regel ein wesentlicher Teil des Unterrichts ist, werden lexikalische Übungen in der Regel jenseits jeglicher unterrichtlicher Einbettung zu Hause in schriftlicher Einzelarbeit erledigt. Die Folge ist, dass eine Mehrheit der Lernenden nicht nur über eine notorisch mangelnde lexikalische und lernstrategische Kompetenz verfügt, sondern das Lernen und vor allem das Üben von Wörtern als sinnlos empfindet. Lehrende wiederum setzen sich viel zu wenig und oft laienhaft mit dem Bereich Wortschatzübungen auseinander und unterschätzen ihre Bedeutung für das Wort-schatzlernen im Allgemeinen. Insbesondere im fortgeschrittenen Englischunterricht haben strukturierte und variationsreiche Wortschatzübungen nahezu keinen Platz in der konkreten Unterrichtspraxis. Die Freude und Neugier, mit der neue Wörter noch in der Grundschule spielerisch und leicht gelernt werden, scheint nahezu ein abruptes Ende mit dem Beginn des weiterführenden Englischunterrichts zu finden. „Vokabellernen“, womit in den meisten Fällen die Phase NACH der Einführung neuer Wörter, also das Üben, gemeint ist, ist eine der unbeliebtesten Aufgaben überhaupt, wenn man Lernende befragt. Nicht nur das muss sich ändern. Es fehlen nach wie vor umfassende Prinzipien und Kriterien für Wortschatz-übungen im frühen Englischunterricht, die die strukturellen und didaktisch- methodologi-schen Spezifika der ersten drei Jahre angemessen berücksichtigen und eine fundierte theo-retische Basis für die Gestaltung, Bewertung und Durchführung von Wortschatzübungen schaffen. Die Motivation dieser Arbeit besteht darin anhand einer theoretischen Auseinan-dersetzung mit lexikalischem Üben und einer praktischen Analyse von Wortschatzübungen in den Lehrwerken für die Jahrgangsstufe 3 bis 5 die Bedeutung lexikalischer Übungen im frühen Englischunterricht noch mehr in den fachdidaktischen Fokus zu rücken.
